I really like this idea. Mainly because you're not married to the tire carrier. And it's just clean:

Nice mounts guys....so whats the major advantage of having one of these?

I would think for more ground clearance, weight further back for balance, and having 2 spares. But some sink into the bed so the ground clearance is not much more in that case?

alot of metal, small engine, decent travel.
caged, camburg long travel, 50t leafpack (soon to be installed) light rack over cab, 5pt harnesses etc
the reason they sink in the bed is to lower the center of gravity, having the weight back there makes it smoother. and it still increases ground clearance

Mainly it right there. Plus some of these guys run 35's and even one 35" will not fit under the truck

I was gonna say that too lol. When I do mine I will probably only do a single spare cause in not super gnar. If I blow a wheel out I think I will call it a day :)

I see thx guys. Maybe I'll put one of these on the list. I was thikin of gettin some bags to leave in bed so theres some more weight back there...

Go for 3! That would be super sick gnar gnar....:headbang: :D

Oh and are there any cool ones with the tailgate in? That does have weight, plus looks good when new lol...maybe less bro-ish? :p

i like what outlaw offroad offers for the raptor... keep the tailgate intact

something similar could easily be made for the tacoma

    http://www.outlawraptor.com/23914/7...release-flush-mount-bed-cage-tire-holder.html

the giant cage keep the tailgate too, but you have no need for that if you dont need the cage for the suspension

Fabtech used to make the slanted bolt on mount. I recall back in the day folks complaining about it warping the bed from offroading. I'm sure 4 wheel parts still has them online.
