Another person with an interesting sig gif. I would like that gif better if it wasn't a setup. I like mine, all natural.

Back on topic... I'd love to recreate my Subaru Legacy's gauge look with white lights and red needles... but I don't have a scangauge and am quite frankly scurrrrred of not calibrating the temp, fuel, tach and speedo needles.

Maybe I'll just change the gauge/dash lights to white and deal with the yellow/amber needles.

Its not that bad recalibrating them. Took me about 10 minutes. I just did mine in blue tonight! Came out really good :D not putting everything back together yet though so i can reset the speedo when i put my 4.88s in next week

I painted mine but painted all 4 sides of the needle. They dont glow when i turn the lights on. Do you just paint the backs??

OP said he painted the bottom where the OEM paint was..which im assuming wasn't on all 4 sides either..Plus it would have to be a thin amount of paint too..

Yes, just the backs. Like Blackdawg said, it's a very thin and narrow area to paint on so just do one good layer that covers the back so it's not too too thick.

has anybody tried this mod but left their needles white? (no paint). I have an 04 with the white gauge faces... and i wanted to do red led's but white needles... is that even possible? i know theres like 4 main bulbs that light up the numbers on the tach, speedo, gas, and temp gauges... but are those the bulbs that feed the light to the needles too?

Anyone else have a problem with the gas gauge? I did this mod, and have removed the cluster about ten times trying to get the gas gauge right. I got it close, but dammit it pisses me off! Tried setting it on full, and empty. I think im actually moving the needle when im pulling it off. Just curious if anyone else had trouble.

I also have an '04, and I find the gauges a bit hard to read sometimes (i have the male red-green colorblindness as well). It looks to me like this mod would really help with that.

My hat's off the the OP.

When I had my LEDs put in, my gas needle is off. It's only off by a fraction, but it annoys me too. I am going to try to pull mine off again this weekend and set it as close as I can.

I know it's bad, but the first time I did this I ran my tank completely dry

After that, the needle worked fine cuz I guess once it hit rock bottom, the only way it could go was up. Hope that makes sense. It's not recommended to run it completely dry, but it's probably the only way to get it back to accurate.

Haha well on my old truck I just filled up and set the needle to where it usually settled at when full. I guess it was accurate idk? The gas needle would always float horribly when i hit a 1/4 tank left. With that in mind I always filled up when it got to that point lol!

Just got shipped over here from a different thread about the led cluster lights. I am for sure going to do this to my new runner. Already have all blue interior lights, just going to do light blue LEDs in dash, and possibly red needles. Also my two amps have blue logos, front speakers light up blue when bass hits, and deck is set on waving of different shades of blue. I don't know if you can tell but I like blue...

Haha yes sounds like you like blue lol! But however the needles are also illuminated by the dash lights. Meaning if you paint them red and use blue lights in the dash you stand the chance of having either very dark almost black needles or purpleish needles. That's all in theory though lol!
