    Hey everyone...

I'm looking at adding an 8" or 10" sub in the back of my 2003 ext cab Tacoma. I really don't want to lose a seat but also don't really want to add anything like the JL Stealthbox for my year of pickup.

Has anyone made a box that fits in the foot area of the seat behind the drivers seat?
I've seen the installs where people put a sub in where those storage compartments are but i'm curious how the sub would sound with the seat down and someone sitting on it. Muffled at all?

I've spent a pretty decent amount of time looking through threads so if you have any new info, please share.
    Thanks for any responses.

On my first gen, I added a 1" seat lift (which really improves seating position) see the link in my sig, and then with the extra room tucked two 8" low profile Sound Ordinance powered subs under the seats, combined with a Kenwood deck and rockford fosgate speakers, and the truck had an awesome sound system. No loss in practical storage space.

Not to thread jack but I wish I could practically do just the opposite, and raise just the FRONT seat mounts. Feels like I'm driving in a bathtub, with my legs straight out.

I made a very small downward facing box for my 10" sub that sits behind the drivers seat on the floor, flush with the top of the rear bench. Then I put a plywood platform on top of there for my dog. Technically a person could still use that rear seat but not very practical with zero legroom.. Also you're limited on how far you can slide the drivers seat back but it works for me since im only just barely over 5'11"

If I was to do it over again I'd probably get one of those compact sub's with a built in amp and put it under one of the front seats

You had me intrigued, so I looked up your seat lift link and found the following:

    • The 1995.5-2004 Tacoma pickups used a non-vertical rear seat bolt so the seat lift kits will not fit those models

Bummer because I really wanted to slip some subs under the seats of my kid's 2000 PreRunner xtra cab.

I swear I put the seat lift in there, I had an 03 double cab. But now I feel like I have dementia. Check the dimensions on that sub, I ran one under both front seats and the sound was awesome. Maybe I didn't need the seat lift to get them under there.

I have a SO 8" powered sub under my drivers seat, fits perfect stock, I kinda want to add one under the pass seat now.

People were surprised at how much power my system had with 2 of those under the seats. My friends with Tacomas ended up buying them for their trucks as well.

I put a 10" JL into the rear passenger tool compartment. Involves taking the carpet out, putting in dynamatt and sealing the holes with expanding foam (duct tape on the outside so it does not escape!!!!). Then you will need to take the little door off and make an MDF plate for the sub where it used to be. My 5 channel amp is under the passenger seat. ZERO loss of room. I have had every sub setup imaginable. This sounds pretty good. Pics and more help if someone wants to do it...

here's those pics, i would have got one of those compact sub/amp combos but i already had this amp and sub from my old car. the 10" sub is facing downwards approx 0.5-1"off the floor and the box is sealed 3/4" mdf. the amp just chills on the side didn't have to screw it down or anything and then a 5/8" plywood shelf with two chunks of 2x4 cut to length to support the front of the shelf. its all very solid and doesn't move around at all. plenty of bass but biggest downfall is not able to move the seat any further back but for me i fit fine
