Well now that i have my new '13 regular cab its time to turn the old regular cab 1st gen in to something more fun than just a daily driver. The engine in it 2.4 2rz is on its last leg, i was originally going to replace it with a rebuilt 2rz and turbo it. After doing some research ive found i can get a 1uz or a 1jz or 2jz for less than a rebuilt turbo 2rz and do the swap, for a little more i could get a turbo 2rz.

Swaps come with engine, trans, ECU and harness. Done some reading and if i swap in a 1jz or 2jz i can utilize the W58 transmission as it will bolt up to the W59 bell housing. Anyone have any experience with either swaps? Im leaning towards which ever would require the least amount of fabrication, and if there are any adapter mount kits for either swap.

If the truck was 4x4 then a diesel would be at the top of the list, but since its 5 lug 2wd it will be low and fast.

    A 2jz with a r154 tranny housing will bolt up strait to a r150f 5soeed and t case.

    Or..I'd look int doing a 1uz or 3uz swap. Small v8

I guess im leaning more towards the 2jz if its more of a bolt up swap, a 1uz or 3uz would be sweet but the fabrication is throwing me off. Also no transfer case, 2wd truck.

Yea saw that after I posted.

Well you'll have to make new mounts either way..

But if you going with that I'd just get an r154 tranny and custom drive shaft.

the v8 is a lot of fab work or it will lead to cooling issues, if a 2jz is what you want you still have to fabricate mounts and move the engine 6" forward... either way in my opinion it's not worth it. go bolt ons with your current engine, port & polish the heads, add new valves and injectors, chip, etc. but swapping the motors sucks. this is my opinion of course, just trying to save you some ass pain... good luck.

The engine is coming out no matter what, its going to crap out on me soon and I would rather be ahead of it. If im taking it out and replacing id rather but a better engine back in if it wouldnt be too big of a hassle. I can also get a 3rz at an affordable price, if that will bot in place to the transmission and mounts in the same as 2rz I could do that.

Looks like its going to cost the same amount to buy used or rebuilt 2rz/3rz as it would to swap in a bigger engine. Id like to hear from someone who has done a 2jz or 1uz/3uz swap in to a 1st gen. So far the biggest hurdles are finding out of the transmission already in will bolt up to the 2jz and fabricating engine mounts. Not to mention all of the 1uz/3uz swaps I find are auto trans/ecu, finding a stardard one is looking pretty tough.

    Like I said.

R154 will bolt up to the 2jz or the 1/3uz with adapters.

2jz bell housing is about 300.

Adapter kit for 1/3uz is about 1600
