Of the axle, it's fairly low but I have only hit it a few times while wheeling. I could move it up 1" or so since the leaf pack doesn't bump that high when it's all put together VS just the main leaf to cycle it.

Here is a old pic of when I first finished it.

    Fairly current setup.

A 10" shock like @Squeaky Penguin is running is more than enough length with bolt in leafs for the rear of a 1st gen. Make it a 2.5 with a resi clicker and your good to go even with an LT front suspension for 95% of the weekend warriors on TW.

It mostly started in TTORA many years ago.

Thought I would post lotsoftoys 1st gen with TC relocation, because it gives an indication of what to expect with shocks outboard. Specs:
-285/75-16 on TRD, looks like spacers on the rear
-Total chaos rear shock relocate with piggyback resi kings.
-all pro expo leaf packs with u bolt flips and 6 inch shackles

With the kit I'm working on, I'm definitely trying to build in plenty of bump travel. Looking at the TC kit as installed here with lift springs, 6" shackles, and what appears to be 2.0x10" King, I'm surprised it doesn't have more bump travel.

He’s welded new bump mounts to the frame, in addition to very long aftermarket rubber bump stops. It does appear to have less up travel than mine, which is odd as I don’t have a ton of lift.

I'd say the bump tube welded to the frame is a little taller than factory brackets that hang down which he removed. I like the cross brace and boxing

I'm probably buying a frame to get better acquainted with the 1st gen, and I'm thinking of making a frame boxing kit for inboard side of frame, anyone interested?

What's wrong with the TG kit? Mine fit perfect.

@Squeaky Penguin Is Trail Gear's a box kit? I read into the TG as an exterior plate since they call them reinforcement plates

YES. Mine will need to be boxed and cross braced since I won’t be able to do frame reinforcement plates, and I’ll need the extra strength for when I finally do a swing out rear bumper

I was thinking a tube between the factory frame close offs at the bump brackets would be a good addition, if a frame doesn't get boxed. Personally I don't think boxing is critical

Agreed. If I box mine I’ll run an x-brace like @lotsoftoys truck. Better rigidity that way

I like that as I said above. The thing that most boxing kits don't do that drives me nuts is they don't go under the cab at least somewhat.

On 1sties, the frame is actually boxed to behind the cab, I'd try to make boxing plates go down and connect to factory box. The fuel tank cross member would have to be cut and welded to plates.
