I currently have a 2000 extended cab tacoma with the 3.4 5 speed 4x4 with the E locker I recently stumbled upon a good deal on a used 2jzgte and I have always wanted to do the swap but was curious as to what all went in it I found the complete motor for $1000 I haven’t pulled the trigger yet I wanna keep the truck 4x4 and if I believe my R series transmission bolts right up to the motor
    Thanks In advance

If you really found a GTE for $1k, you better jump on that before it sells.

lots and lots of funds. 2JZ shit has a tax on it that makes most of the parts for the swap or upgrades expensive.

2JZ-GTE? The twin turbo? That's a $7,000 engine - I'd like to see where you found one for $1,000.

I thought the same thing after looking on the jdm engine depot if you can even find one 7k is cheaper…. So I questioned him for more photos and it is in fact non tt

Depending on the year i would go non-turbo anyways. Look for a pre-vvti engine out of a SC300/GS300. I used an engine from a 95 SC300 (Same basic stuff as the GTE, with higher compression). The rods on the vvti stuff get real weak and cant handle the boost. Convert an NA engine to single turbo.

Did you mean a 1jz? If you can get a 2j for that I’d stop posting here and go buy it!

He said a few posts up that the engine is a NA 2JZ. $1k seems to be the going price for them at the moment. GTE stuff is stupid at like $7-10k for an engine that was less than $3k pre-covid. I paid $275 for my junkyard 2JZ.

I should add engine swaps are not easy. They are expensive, time consuming, difficult, and definitely not for beginners. You’ll also be paying the 2JZ tax, parts are going to be much more expensive than usual.

Is there something about the 2JZ-GE's that make them a worthwhile swap, or is this project being done just because? I'm assuming this isn't just about power since the 3.4 SC yields better power values than the GE swap.

It is in fact a vvti engine so I’ll keep a eye out for non vvti, I have been seeing parts pop up more often than usual

A SC 3.4l makes what, 250-275 hp? Even with the smallest turbo, a 2JZ can make 3-400hp. Add a bigger turbo and e85 and youre in the 7-800hp without having to open up the engine. Mine is in the 500hp range and can hit 8k rpms. The sounds it makes are amazing. The part that isnt worthwhile is the price. Shit gets expensive real quick.

I’m most definitely not an expert I was curious what all goes into before I commit, I’ve gotta learn it one way or another I can’t become a “expert” if I’ve never started. It’s not gonna be something I do In weekend, but good tips and information is a big plus to get me started.

We all have to learn somewhere. Its been done before in a tacoma. Check out the Supra-truck page on facebook. Lots of tips and tricks there for swapping a 2jz into a truck. Expect to spend $10k minimum on a properly done swap with a single turbo. Engine management systems and wiring harnesses are $2-3k.
