    Hey folks,

I am working on replacing my rack and pinion on a 2001_2WD_V6 Preruner. I am running into some trouble re-fitting the fluid lines back onto the new rack and pinion.

I am especially having trouble with the high-pressure line (please see photos) and I am wondering if I need to replace the line? Do the threads look worn out? Any advice on installing them correctly?

I would really appreciate any advice, links to videos or anything else! Thanks! IMG_0685.jpg IMG_0686.jpg

Yeah looks like you need to clean up those threads. Rent yourself a tap and die set from AutoZone/Oreilly etc. to clean up those threads and it should be good to go. Use the taps on the female portion of the rack to identify the correct thread pitch and then use a die of that type to clean up your hose thread.

Unfortunately that doesn't really work too well. They are a pipe thread so they seem to gradually get larger as you screw them in so a tap/die doesn't work. You can get a small file and straighten the threads or for $100 just buy a new high pressure hose.

On mine even with flare nut wrenches the cams on the coupler were bunged up. You could probably get it to go in if you're careful but as you already know there's not much room in there and getting the angle right is a bear and it could make it worse. Ask yourself if you want to put these crossed threads back in a new rack.

Then find yourself at Napa buying a new one. :-D Found mine at Autozone, this is one of the areas I don't mind going aftermarket.

Some guys would attempt putting a new coupler on and re-flaring the line, but same issue, difficult and will it work/bet it won't.
