Well this one has hit a pretty big stumbling block. Was planning on putting the used engine in this past weekend. Decided to do a leakdown test and got to cylinders 5 & 6 and I had 80% leakage. Sounds like from the exhaust valves. I used the 82k mile heads on this 180k mile short block. Tested the heads on the blown block prior to pulling them. I was able to leakdown test cylinders 1-4 but not 5&6 due to the thrown rods. SO - my options are have a set of heads rebuilt, source already remanufactured heads or remanufactured engine.

I'm leaning heavily towards the new engine route as I don't want to sink any more $$$ into this used block.

I was pretty gutted at first - but it is what it is. On one hand it was a learning experience doing the timing belt, valve shims, oil pump, etc. An expensive learning experience but a learning experience none the less.

On a positive note I finally dragged this boat anchor to the curb. Was expecting to drop it on my foot and have it F me one last time but thankfully it went to the scrap yard without drama.

Got the manual brake pedal in. Not much more to do in the interim. But at least it's progress.... :/

Continued to try to keep things moving. Enlarged the transmission tunnel for the manual transmission and transfer case. Came out well using factory mounting points. Will need to put one rivnut in.
