I finally installed both sides last night after about a month of having them. The installation was easy. The first side was a little more time consuming as I was watching the video while installing. The second side may have taken 5 minutes after I installed the first. Overall, it is a great product. My side covers don't even seem to flex or move when I get out of my seat, and they don't hang loosely anymore. This was an improvement as both side covers had some cracks and tabs broken.

My drivers side was easy. The passenger side I could not use the bolt in the bracket .
The seat mechanism for the slide was in the way. I had to drill asmaller hole in a different place and use a smaller bolt.

Interesting. I installed one myself on a local members truck and had no problems. If you could take some pictures that would be helpful. Thx

Looks like its not level/straight across with track. Looks like it worked though.

Yeah I just mocked it up and drilled it in place so that the plastic trim lined up with the seat plastic. Worked good. Thing is solid on there now

Anyone with an xtracab have any problems installing a passenger side plate? If you did please post up some pictures of the issue. I need to correct it if need be.

Took me long enough to get to it, but finally installed mine on the driver side today. Super solid! I could have countersunk the screws a bit more but I’m pleased anyway. Only snag I hit was drilling my original 1/4 hole a tad too far to the right. I re-drilled and everything lined up. Thanks, Johnny 9-Fingers!!!

    Here you go.

For those of you with extended cabs having problems installing the plate on the passenger side, watch this video.

Skip to 4:20 if you don’t want to hear me rambling

I think the easy solution here is to just drill an additional hole in the passenger side plates so that way an alternate mounting point can be used if installing on an extended cab.

edit: Jon thinks that maybe the bolt that uses the cable mechanism can be used. I think so too. It would just require the use of a spacer

    ,
Here's what I've come up with for the passenger seat in the extra cabs.
You'll measure 2 1/8 from the edge and use the spacer (I'll be sending those out to who ever needs them) to line it up.
Then drill 5/16 hole. Use the bolt that retains the tilt mechanism to bolt plate and spacer on. Discard the 1/4 inch bolt and nuts provided.

This is the place the spacer will go.^^^^^^^^^^^^

Ummmm sorta..... As soon as you do ANY kind of lift you will definitely notice how much more pressure you're putting on that side cover. There's not much holding it other than a couple of plastic tabs on the inside. So when you lift it you go from stepping out of your truck to sliding out of it.

Well I have a 2000 and ever since I installed a two inch lift it's been a problem. Maybe I'm gettin' lazy in my old age. So I would say a 98 would have the same problem eventually. After all it is just plastic. Twenty year old plastic. This support has made a huge difference in my opinion.

The entire seat trim is held on my one screw that is far away from where most of the force is applied. Sure, there is plastic that locks into the seat frame, but my plastic broke off. This bracket is excellent if your trim has broken. Mine broke 2-3 times and then I rigged up a way to zip tie the trim on. But the zip tie is nothing more than a bandaid. This steel support bracket provides the support your broken seat trim at a fraction of the cost of new trim.
