    Hi there!

I have a question in regards to front suspension upgrades for my 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. For the front, I currently have the Bilstein 5100s on the Toytec coils. I want to upgrade to OME, but for leveling purposes and ride quality, I have seen mixed reviews about purchasing new Bilstein 5100 shocks and installing Old Man Emu springs (OME 883 coils because I have an ARB bumper). Is there a significant difference between running the OME nitrocharger shocks with the OME coils and the 5100s with the OME coils. I am already in the market for the OME leaf springs, but for shocks, I would prefer them to match. That's my predicament haha! Thank you for the help in advance.

I currently have 883s and Bilstein 5100s that the P.O. installed. I'm a few weeks away from swapping them for some ADS coilovers (I think they come with 650# springs). I, too, have a front ARB bumper and I've not been impressed with the ride of the 883/5100 combo. I know lots of people on here do love them - it could be just the stiffness of the 883s. I am happy they haven't drooped over time (4+ years now). Give me a few weeks and I'll sell you 883s in good shape at a good price!

That's what I have to add. Good luck!

@greengaint97 Thank you lots for your response! Sorry, I’m so late on replying. I just set up notification alerts haha. I’m definitely going to keep the OME Nitrocharger Sports in mind with the 883 coils! I’ve been running the Bilstein 5100 lift with Toytec coils for about 4 years now and since I’m finally adding the major components to the truck, I need something more comfortable for the weight I’ll be applying. Thank you again and it’s awesome to meet you! Take care!

Have you considered running 882 on the second notch of 5100 struts? - one of the beauties of the 5100
This might get you a good lift without the high spring rate of the 883

That was actually an option I was considering before I decided to make this thread! I had the very same idea of compensating the spring rate with an adjustable coilover, as what I have now. Mine is even on the bottom notch, but the spring rate is about 620lb for the Toytec coil, I believe. However, I keep reminding myself, that I am going to be adding a winch to my front bumper. It's an option, but I would just have to see it on someone else's truck with their experiences with the setup.

I hear you, tough call for sure. There’s really no way to know until you make the change! At least with 5100 you always have the option to come up on those struts, not the other way around

Definitely! Very true. I did end up finding another discussion between the different coils, and someone was explaining the characteristics of the OME nitrochargers and the Bilstein 5100s. I'll put some more research in, to see what I can find!

what was your decision OP? I'm trying to figure out whether to go with 882/883 with 5100 or the OME all the way stuff... I see a lot of mixed reviews about both... I don't care about lifting, I just want a suspension that feels good driving down the road and on the occasional dirt road/trail. Got the v6 prerunner, so no 4X4 weight up front. No winch on the front either.

Hi there! I actually just got another Tacoma because my 2002 was totaled while parked outside my house a few months ago! But now I have a 2003 and I just ordered an OME Kit with their Add-A-Leaf on HeadStrongOffroad.com! It should be coming tomorrow! But I went ahead and requested the 883 Coils and the reason I chose the Add-A-Leaf, was because my other truck ran an add a leaf and it performed just fine, as well as held my RoofTop Tent perfectly fine without sagging! And my current truck’s leaf springs don’t squeak right now either. I heard lots of ups and downs about some squeaking issues over time with new leaf packs! Here’s a picture of how my truck set before it was totaled and here’s one of my current truck Haha5CD75449-6B6B-434A-B709-CFF1B81C0FD8.jpg ! #GreenMachineLives
