I bought the 2003 new in Nov. of 2002. I was ready for a new truck for years but was waiting for the 3rd gens. to come out (I think the rumors started back in 2013). I'm happy. I'm glad I waited.

Told the salesman (not much of a salesman, I know 10x more about the truck than him) that I'd be there Monday with a deposit if he could get me down to $31,500 (before taxes and processing, which is $574 total). :fingerscrossed:

I'm hoping so man. My first new vehicle purchase (21 years old), so I'm a bit nervous.

Also, don't care for my saleman as of yet.

Keep a good eye on the loan rate, a new buyer with credit that's not too established can be pretty damn high. Also, have you talked to your insurance company about what full coverage on a new 4X4 will be for someone under 25? Back when I was buying my first new truck, insurance rates for a single male under 25 were going to be the same as the truck payment doubling the cost for me. I couldn't do it so that's why I went for a 4X2 for the first time. After I established better credit and got older I moved up to a 4X4.

My credit is actually pretty decent (slightly about 700), and I currently have a 2002 4x4 on my insurance. I pay $80ish a month for 1 step below full coverage.

Better get a quote on them for the new truck, you might be surprised how much it bumps up.

You will have to have full coverage if you finance, make sure you check with insurance company before you buy!

Depending on how much you put down you may also have to include Gap insurance on the purchase. That will also add cost.

It will depend upon what the total finance charge of the vehicle is.

Gap insurance covers the difference (the gap) between what your vehicle is worth and how much you owe on the car. Gap insurance comes into play if your car is stolen or totaled (damaged to the point that repair would cost more than the car is worth) before the car is paid off.

Since it's a new 4X4 and because of your age, the dealer and the insurance company anticipate you will take your brand new truck offroad and possibly damage it shortly after purchase. In order to cover the premature loss they are going to get as much out of you as possible in order to cover that expense. You can be the most conscientious, polite and safest driver in the world but the odds are stacked against you because of your age group.

Gotcha. I'm assuming that if I'm able to get the truck for that good of a deal and put down $8,000, gap insurance shouldn't apply.

Depends on the interest rate, amount and duration of the loan. If the total interest finance charge exceeds your 8k then yes you have a gap until you pay down more over time.

If my total interest exceeds $8k I won't have a new Tacoma. Haha

Like I said earlier in this thread, my purchase with TTL, extended warranty and interest on a 5 year loan @ 2.5% added almost 6k to the sale price of the truck. My 15K dp easily covered that 6k. It will depend on the type of deal you put together in the end.

200 more lb but 50 more hp. I mean, I can't speak for the auto being a slug, but manual vs manual it would make sense for the 3rd to win.

Then again, it's a truck. It really doesn't or shouldn't matter.
