All respect to those with differing opinions here, but IMO these trucks are meant to be used. The thought of towing one behind a UHAUL is hard for me to stomach. I drove Portland to SF across Mt Ashland in June a few years ago towing a fully loaded 6x12' haul trailer and had no issues. The key? Tune up your truck before you send it and simply adjust your expectations. You're not going to rally this 30 yo truck across a mountain range while towing its maximum weight rating. Take it slow, enjoy the ride, and marvel at the fact that your vehicle is still doing work after such a long time. I'll be moving to CO in a few months and you bet your ass I'll be pulling a trailer behind my 5vz-fe. Wishing you luck with your move!
