Do 1st Gen Tundras have a similar reputation as the 1st Gen Tacomas?

I'm looking for a 1st gen tacoma or tundra. Need something reliable but it will not be a daily driver.

Well, the Tundra is bigger and the 4.7L V8 is known for their reliability. The Tacoma is smaller and the 3.4L V6 is also known for their reliability.

What are your plans for the truck?

I have a department-issued truck so this would not be a daily driver, but it needs to be of good quality and reliability for my days off when I need to run errands or pick up my son, etc.

I'd say both truck would be a great option. Check out this forum, https://www.tundras.com/forums/1st-gen-tundras-2000-2006.2/

Both Forums are related to each other, both have a lot of info.

They make a manual 1st gen Tundra with a 3.4 as well. My grandpa has one with 500k miles.

    Tundra:
Roomier but heavier and have a larger profile. 2uz consume more gas but is more powerful. 5vz tundra is probably the dumbest idea IMO. It's already gutless in the tacoma.

    Tacoma:
Compact and more offroad friendly. Easier to park and easier for others to drive.

    They both have LBJ issue.

I had an 01 with the v6. loved it. I have seen some v6 4x4 but rare. That would be my choice.

Feels the same as a Tacoma with a little weight, not too bad at all. If it had the crappy auto trans then I can agree.
