My daughter has a 2000 x-cab with 130k on it. She bought it in Arizona so there’s zero rust. It did of course have faded paint with some areas of non existent clear coat so she had a complete repaint done about four months ago. She recently started college and is considering selling the Tacoma and getting a gas miser car. Question is, what’s it worth? She’s in Mn and has talked to a few dealerships and I’m sure they are low balling her. She also had new tires installed last spring, nothing special, mainly highway tires because that’s where she drives for the most part. Anyway, any ideas on what she could get for it? Thanks

I’ll have her send me some pics to post and see what she has available for records. I don’t know if she got any from the original owner but I know she keeps everything that she’s had done. The body shop that painted it said other than the paint it was the cleanest one they’ve seen.

dealerships are still extremely adverse to ANY vehicle with more than 100k miles on it, and even more against anything older than 10 years. it doesn't matter what it is, they'll generally only give a trade value of around $1-2k. depending on the overall condition and area, it can be worth around $5k-ish private party, but that means you or your daughter are going to need to field questions and cater to the public, which rarely has a dull moment.

selling it at the dealer means she can get something else for the least amount of hassle, but at the reduced value. it just comes down to how much you/her value your time dealing with the public for a few thousand dollars... sometimes it's really not worth it...

Maybe in Indiana, On the West Coast people are paying a premium for these older Tacomas. I bet she's sitting on 10k truck in my area. 100k miles is not scaring dealers or buyers from what I've seen.

he did specify the truck/daughter are in Minnesota, which get worse winters than my area, and i would expect have similar rusty-vehicle issues. i don't think it's fair to state that any vehicle is worth more somewhere else, because the likelihood of moving a vehicle about 2,000 miles just for a boost in resale is not exactly viable for most people.

my experience in my area is that most dealers tend to look at the model year and mileage first, with actual condition being a distant 3rd for placing a value on it. a previous vehicle i tried getting trade offers on was a very clean florida vehicle for all of except the 5 years total-- 3 before, and 2 as i had it, but was 14 years old, and had 130k miles on it, with all maintenance receipts. i found it interesting that the dealers questions were always "what year, how many miles", and it was always met with the same shudder and low-ball offer, with some specifically explaining that it was due to it exceeding the 10yr/100k miles part-- many would also explain that they would never put onto their own lot due to those two factors, they would send it to auction, and still want to turn a profit on it at auction, where it will likely be low-balled as well, which leads to a far lower offer.

Agree to disagree. The fact OP stated the truck was originally from Arizona does in fact have bearing on it's value. Most buyers seek out a vehicle from a dry environment, so your statement about a vehicle not being worth more because of it's geographic location are misleading.
You even stated you tried "getting trade offers on a previous vehicle that was a very clean from Florida"
    OP's question. What's it worth?
So it is in fact fair to state a vehicle is worth more somewhere else, with the likelihood of a buyer from another state making shipping arrangements and purchasing vehicle.

    Checked out https://bringatrailer.com/ lately?
