I have a 1999 2.7 4 banger with a manual transmission, and in the last few days it has started having a bad vibration. I can't figure out where its coming from. The front end looks good and the rear end looks good. It gets worse when I hit the gas and stays the same when breaking, in neutral, and when rolling. Also a few days before i noticed a scraping noise that sounds like it is coming from somewhere directly behind the radio. I think it is a metal on metal sound. y'all have any ideas what this could be? The truck still goes into gear just like it always has. I have checked all the basic stuff and haven't found anything. I forgot it also has the rear diff lock.

Need more info... "It gets worse when I hit the gas" "Stays the same when braking"
So when you hit the gas do your hear a Thump, Thump thump, sound that Increases with wheel speed ? When you brake the noise stays the same ?
Is the sound a tinny light sound ? Or a big "My motors going to fall out noise ?

I had a scraping noise on my truck after doing some front end work and it was the brake shield connected to the hub. All I had to do was bend it back a little and the noise went away. This has been a problem a couple of times on this forum. As for the vibration...maybe there unrelated???? Then it could be a u-joint, tires out of balance or a number of things. We'd need more details like cruisedon66 said.

    Good luck.

Its not a extremely loud scrape but its not barely noticeable either. There is no thumping noise, and as long as I am not hitting the gas the truck rides normal it somewhat vibrates still but I think that may just be needing an alignment. However when I hit the gas the whole truck vibrates kind of like it would if you shifted into 5th gear going 35. Also thats when the scraping noise starts. After a few seconds the scraping goes away but the truck continues to vibrate. The truck felt like it slipped gear last night when I took off at a red light so I think the clutch may be going bad, but would that cause the whole truck to vibrate like it does?

I found the problem and fixed it turned out to be a bad u-joint and carrier bearing.
