1st Gen Xtracab Rear Legroom

I am thinking about buying a 2004 Tacoma XtraCab. What's the rear seat (if it even is a seat) legroom like? I'm 6', would I be able to fit someone who's a little shorter than me behind me for short distances?

 

I would barely put a dog back there, don't put a person.

 

Virtually unlimited legroom if you sit sideways.

 

What if you want to fit two people in the back?

 

I had people ride back there and I have ridden back there but it's not fun. Basically enough room for 1 person to sit sideways.

Two people? Maybe 2 children.

 

Have you been in or near a 1st Gen Taco?
They're tiny little trucks, with a proper 6.5' bed on the Xtra cab.

 

Which is nice, becuase laying down in the bed would be more comfortable than the jump seats.

 

Before I got my 4runner, my wife would ride back there occasionally after we had a baby and I had to put the car seat up front (that won't fit in the back). She's small and 5'7 and could only fit in the back sitting sideways. It's meant as a last resort for putting people in, I would not count on it as a regular thing unless you are trying to punish the person.

 

The bed is 6' on my 1st gen Xtra cab.

 

I sold my beloved 01 because of the car seat.

I'm still in therapy 8 years later.

 

Ouch haha. I still have the truck, can't bring myself to sell it. Collects dust most days but I just can't do it, when I think about doing it my wife talks me out of it so it's gonna stay unless life makes it necessary

Hopefully when the kids are older it will start seeing the use of it's glory days again

The point of my comment is that the designers of the truck prioritized bed capacity over cabin volume.

I would post a pic of my '95 hiding behind a Maverick, but then I'd get banned again, so just imagine looking at the Ford and not being able to see a 1st Gen parked next to it.

 

I don't get it....maybe you misread your tape measure....or you're like my buddy, he's 5'9" but tells the ladies he's 6' haha.

Nope, not 72" not 6.5' either haha. For those who don't know, 6.5' is 78".
So yeah, I shorted myself a couple inches, since the number posted by 545, 74.5" (74.4" depending on source), is the number that others have posted as well and I believe is probably accurate of the vox dimension with tailgate closed. Now I have 2.5" more bed length than I had guessed, or would have without this drop in liner.

 

I upgraded from single cab to extra cab when I had a kid. YES car seat does work in rear -- the little fold out cup holder on pass. side is designed to hold the car seat. Seat cushion folded up, table out, and you're good for car seat. My daughter age 8 loves the back seats. Drove cross country when she was 6. I'm 5'7" and fit fine -- the bigger issue is not the leg room it's the vertical position of the seat back -- tiring for an adult on a long trip, but serves fine for short trips. Kids think its rad no matter what because they're not in a CUV....

You're (OP) going to get a lot of opinions here and the only opinion that matters is yours. Get in the back and see how you like it.

Extra cab means a couple bags of groceries. Love my 2nd gen but not for extra seating

 

i have but it was from the inside the car show venue to the parking lot. and we are all Filipino so we fit.

 

Sure, just make sure they're two people you already don't like very much.
