Hello, first post(I thought I signed up in the past, but couldnt locate my account) here on the forum. Very informative.
Kevin from Vegas. Saw this here post and wanted to say that Ive asked several times at oil change places to please grease the drive components and every time when I asked if they had greased them they responded, "the service manual says you dont have to", so I do it myself.

What a great thread. So helpful. I found I could not get my LockNLube coupler to engage on the middle of the three Zerks on the carrier bearing. I had to use a 1/8” regular coupler. That worked fine. Thank you so much for the work on this thread.

I only have wheel bearing grease in my grease gun. Can I use that? It's grey (the grease) if that changes anything

Check the owners manual, I no longer have a 1st gen, but I think it calls for NGLI#2 grease. As long as your wheel bearing grease has this it should be fine, @Noakea_Bean

I am comfortable with hands-on and have religiously changed my own synthetic engine oil by 5k, but I am now looking to lube my driveshaft for the first time myself. I have read several threads to get comfortable with the location of the zerks and procedure and this thread has been very helpful. Thank you!

My main worry is applying too much grease to the zerks on the slip yokes to avoid any issues. (Recommended 2-3 pumps max.) My understanding is that, for the other zerks, you can squeeze until grease starts to come out, though some say to wait 'till you see the new grease and others say you risk blowing the seals that way so you should only push 'till you see a bit of the old grease come out.

I want to confirm that the zerks I need to be most conservative with are the ones that are located ON the slip yokes, i.e. the arrow on the bottom in the far right photo in the rear series and and the arrow on the right in the first photo in the front series. Do I have that right?

I know this thread has been dead for a bit, and I hate to resurrect it; but I have a really simple question. I need to grease up the old gal (almost 200k) and was wondering what size fitting(s) are needed for the zerk locations.

Are you asking what size the zerk fittings are? If so they are 6x1mm.
