There's really not a whole lot to discuss. Most of the info is out there, just gotta read it.

Lots of 1st gens out here. You won't hardly find many for sale though.

I thought you were selling off some of your fleet!

And it’s simple math. Vehicles age, frames rot out, accidents occur, all resulting in fewer and fewer 1st gens on the road. Think about those 90s Camry’s that used to be EVERYWHERE. When’s the last time you saw one? If it was recent, I bet it wasn’t more than 1 or 2. Used to be everywhere.

The 02 and the 07 will be for sale when I’m done with them. The 95,98,01,01 will be staying

I plan to keep mine for the next 10 years. Instead of saving for a new truck I'm saving for a new/reman motor and drive train.

Here in the Phoenix area they're everywhere! Nothing un-common to be on the freeway in rush hour and be able to spot 2 1St gens within immediate sight. No rust issues if they spent their life here.

Same here in Yuma. If there were a popularity count it would be between Tacomas and Jeeps.

Thinking about buying a new 2024 Tacoma, but keeping our base 2003 2.4L 5 speed 2WD Tacoma that we purchased new for less than $12,000. It's only has 200,000 miles so far.

Last summer on Mount Pisgah Mountain NC:

I don’t have much to contribute since I have zero mechanical skills but my interest in my first gen remains a passion. 3rd Gen mostly sits unused and going up for sale in a few weeks.

To me, the first gen is the Tacoma. Sure, it has its quirks and flaws, and the 2nd gen is probably a better truck overall, at least on paper. But the first gen is one of the last few mini trucks sold in North America, before much of the fun was engineered out of the platform.

Its a better truck if you want a midsize. If you want a compact truck then 1st gen is the better truck, which is what I want, I have no use for anything bigger. And I agree 1st gen is THE Tacoma cause I feel like the Tacoma's identity was solidified as a compact, the modernized iteration of the classic Pickup.

I've owned my '03 for almost 13 years now, love this truck. Super reliable and only 64k miles on it.

I still would have had my '97 if the frame hadn't rusted out...Toyota gave me $12k which was more than I paid for it
