Ya we were trying to get to Postpile, the old Rubicon trail entrance. We hit another water crossing that we didn't want to go through. It poured rain on us most of the day, it was crazy how much run off we saw.

Portland OR got slammed last week with 12" of snow and then some ice. Further down the Willamette Valley, we got less, only a couple inches... does this count? I've got a couple tires in on the snow... ;)

That's the same day I was up there. I've gone to the toy run the last 3 years now. I joined the El Dorado Jeep Herders last year.

I was with my buddy in a black 2005 jeep rubicon. We let a jeep on swampers and a first gen Toyota pickup go around us. We watched them go through the water crossing and that video was actually taken from one of them. I'm still kinda surprised I actually went through it in my Tacoma. We were ready to turn around until we saw the 2 other rigs drive through it.

Seems like a good opportunity to get water in your differentials via diff breathers. Typically I'm not a big fan of water crossings. It didn't seem as deep after I drove through it though.

Funny I should see a post about "Loon Lake". I spent every weekend there decades ago when I lived in Sacto. It is really nice up there. Back then? You could be alone with no one around. Don't know how it is now.

I can tell everyone about snow and ice. I drive for a living and I haven't worked a full 5 day week in well over a month. Anyone who orders anything from Amazon or any other company and thinks it's going to get there in the "normal" time frame? Think again. Freight is screwed up nationwide. My Taco? Normally I have to go out of my way to "lube the hubs" per the factory service manual. For the last 2 months the interstate and driving around town lubes them just fine in 4WD.

My problem is that when I bought this used Taco from my dad a couple of years ago and then moved I realized (last winter) that while Michelin MS/2's are probably the best tire out there for Kalifornia weather they just barely get the job done where there is snow and ice at least 6 months out of the year. I certainly don't want to throw them away when they are still good considering their cost but before next winter I'm getting some new aluminum rims to make up for the extra weight of some more aggressive tires like the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs or BF Goodrich KO2's.

I love the snow but my travels off-road are severely limited with MS/2's in the mud or snow. They just aren't designed for it although, for what they were originally designed for, they are quite incredible in dry conditions. It's amazing what I can climb up when it's dry in the summertime. No problems at all with sidewall damage either when driving through massive beds of sharp rocks. They are the best tire in the world for dry conditions but suck in the mud and snow and my God. When Wyoming thaws out in the spring the mud is even worse than the snow when off road because of the clay content. At ten mph or less you can just slide off the road.
