I guess I need to know now if anyone is running 285/50/20's and if that can be done without rubbing?

Several folks run 285/60/18 on stock suspension and the 285/50's are actually slightly smaller than that. What's the backspacing of the wheel you are looking at?

    Thank you KPT.

The BS for the tire is 5.0? I'm not entirely sure if that is correct or not but the application guide is here (http://www.bmfwheels.com/BMF-app-guide.html) for item #461B-090613900.

    I appreciate your time.

Stupidity is that I came to a Tacoma forum asking questions thinking others may have come across the same problem and willing to share their solutions. Is that what makes this thread stupid?

I think he feels you have contradicting goals? idk.

and I don't know if you answered this or not, but how comfortable are you cutting, pounding, and grinding away metal in your wheel wells in order for these to fit? thats very important.

Oh and just for reference the lower the backspace number the further the tire will stick out from the truck. so a 3.75 BS'd wheel will stick out further than a 5.5 BS'd wheel.

Yes the backspacing will be 5". You will probably be able to fit the 285/50/20, but I would ask for a test-fit.

I wouldn't feel comfortable at all doing that. Pay that much for a rim designed to FIT my truck and STILL have to cut and grind, no thank you.

I will just stick with the rims that are on it.

    BUT

If a leveling kit and the correct size tires will allow me to get these on WITHOUT "cutting, pounding, and grinding" then yes, I will get them.

The thread has sparked different questions and as long as I have been around forums that is what they are for. I was always set on the rims, just needed to know about the wheel spacers (question was answered) and now tire size is the issue.

I appreciate everyone that has contributed ACTUAL information pertaining to my questions though.

If you find a 265/55/20 that is approved for a 9" wide rim, then you can use the rims you selected with no lift, and no cutting grinding or pounding. In the end it's all about tire size, not rim diameter.

Yeah, that looks to be like the unicorn of tires. I have written BMF twice now asking what size tire and not heard back yet. Hopefully they can suggest a size that won't require "cutting, pounding, and grinding".

    Thanks for your help.

Yeah you will have to keep the overall tire diameter pretty stock to avoid it, I only went an inch up in tire size and had to pull my mudflaps, cut a ton of plastic off and hammer the pinchweld and fire wall back but it was worth it! no rub, except for my driver side frame cause I need a lower BS.

and ok let us know what BMF says!

BMF wrote back and it looks like a 285/50/20 tire will work. Still will need a leveling kit and they sell them for $230. So it looks like I can make sure Santa knows this =P http://www.bmfwheels.com/leveling_kits.html

So I think we have decided on 285/50r20 tires:

from the online tire size calculator

And If you are going to lift the front ~ 2 inches (what the spacer kit you posted would do), I would instead buy Blistein Shocks for just the front @ $180 and set them on the 1.75'' lift setting, or buy front and rear blistein shocks for an improved ride @ ~$300. FYI, the rear blistein shocks do not lift the truck, only the front ones do, they are their solely to improve the ride.

Same stuff. Avoid anything that's called a "leveling kit" or "spacer lift".

    Here's why:

OME is a lift kit (Old Man Emu). He's saying get a 3" OME lift.

Bilstein 5100s at 1.75" as recommended earlier are a good inexpensive choice. It's a much better ride than a spacer or leveling kit.
