I love how this turns into a witch hunt if anyone disagrees with blessed Toyota manufacturing. I've tried to steer back to OP but you guys just want to continue bashing on ME now apparently. So have at it, it's the Internet. Guaranteed ill never meet any of you in person, and thank God for that.

 

No witch hunt on my end. Just making a clarification. Not just on Toyota, but on ANY manufacturer, the dealerships are NOT owned by the manufacturer. Sorry if you feel hurt or offended.

You have expressed nothing but your biased opinion on the subject. You stated that the Tacoma's brakes are sub-standard. Others have provided testing evidence of the contrary and you don't want to hear it. You arre just looking for a fight and stomping your feet and throwing a tantrum because people don't take your word as law.

I don't drink the Toyota Kool-Aid as many do. I think that the Tacomas, and ALL Toyotas fall short in many ways. The brakes are not one of them...Maybe with the exception of the over-zealous ABS.

ABS works good down here in the south.

 

I spent some time at the local dealer a while back looking into that TRD big brake kit ( which after a couple calls to stoptech, they admited they build and rebadge for the TRD brand) The TRD brake kit marketed for the tacoma is for the 5 lug x runner, however the TRD kit available for the 4 runner that shares our platform is made in a 6 lug application. We compared stock caliper specs and part #'s with the FJ cruiser and the 4runner and the numbers matched up. The 4 runner kit is only available as a 4 wheel disc set so the rears would be worthless, but the fronts would bolt right up and give you a pretty kick ass brake setup for towing or pretty much anything else you'd want to do with your truck. After my TRD SC, my brakes have felt a little lacking which led to the research...Thought I would share what I came up with. Price wasnt too bad either, about 1600 or so... Food for thought

Funny thing is, all ABS needs is a different software profile with higher slip ratio when 4WD is engaged. Toyota bills it "Multi-Terrain ABS" and offers it in the FJ, 4Runner Trail and Land Cruiser, but not the Tacoma.
