Its funny that I only really noticed that the first few weeks of owning my old 08 and then I adjusted to it and never really noticed it again, anxious to see how the my new 17 will act compared to my old 15.

Hey guys, what's the point of the annoying rev hang anyways?

Have you had it very long? Maybe you are still just adjusting to it.

You will adjust to it for sure, give it a little more time and you wont even think about it.

I dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but to me it seems like its a lot easier to get a quick shift into second if you agressively let off the throttle either as you press the clutch or slightly before. Something about jerking my foot off the pedal seems to let the truck come down in rpm quicker and without the dreaded rpm hang. Flow mods seem to help with the rpm hang too FWIW.

Just keep working at it and try different stuff until you get it smooth. I'm normally shifting around 2.5-3k in 1st and I don't rush it. You can help the revs down with the clutch if you quickly release to the engagement point and then slowly pull through it, releasing entirely once the revs have synced.

It took me awhile to change my habits from my other car. Driving each smooth requires entirely different techniques.

You want to shift into second around 6k(after you hit the Rev limiter) and then do a gnarly 2nd gear burnout

2500 to 3500rpm, so the average is what, 3000rpm. Also, how quick are you throwing it? I imagine will have something to with it.....

My wife is not smooth with this truck, but I find it VERY smooth.

I find that since first and second is suck a large reduction in gear ratio I like to get first to around 2-2500 ish rpm then quick wish the clutch and swift but not rough shift and slow off the clutch with minimal gas

One thing that has been revealed is that our Tacos have individual throttle maps for each gear and neutral. That seems completely asinine to me. It was sort of masked on the stock and TSB tunes. I have been wondering how the ECU determines the gear and map since we only really have a neutral switch and switches on both ends of the clutch throw (I could be wrong). The delay of the ECU taking time to figure out RPM versus Speed could cause shift problems and inconsistency, esp between 1st and 2nd due to the greatest RPM difference.

For me, I feel this is magnified with OVT Full Otto tunes since the bottom of the throttle and RPM range is much more effective.

What I learned to deal with it is to never leave my foot completely off the throttle when up shifting. I'm still working on my muscle memory, but just keeping the slightest pressure on the pedal (5%?), makes thee nicest, smoothest shifts for me. I don't know what is going on inside the ECU with this, but it is working great. This technique does not seem to affect Rev Hang, which was lessened a bit with the TSB tune.

This has worked for me while shifting at any RPM. Beyond that, I never try to shift in a particular range, just what feels right.

I find that I tend to skip 5th gear more than anything.

Wow, that is interesting, never knew about the individual maps for each gear.

It is absolutely crazy. A single map tune is being worked on.

I could maybe see an in-gear and a neutral map, maybe? Seven maps is just wrong.

On Map to Rule Them All! :D
