    I personally would find a 1st gen and slowly bring it back to mint condition while saving money.

    2012-2015 are the best Tacomas ever made IMO, but I'm biased haha. I vote second gen solely for the 4.0 powertrain- it'll last you forever.

    Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
    thats the combo I have, not the manual hubs though :( all Tacomas are good, 1st gen it’s bulletproof but a little small, 2nd gen is great, 3rd gen looks awesome but people hate the engine and the gear shifting(based on what Toyota say is for gas mileage) Idk your finances but I’ll be down to get a Beater and wait for the 4th and give it some hell!
