I'm new to the forum and TW and looking for ideas to give my Tacoma a slight lift while not changing the ride quality much? I've never lifted a truck before so not sure how it works.

I wish. The neighbors tore up their lawn today to pave a driveway. I'm supposed to be waking up in an hour. I've only slept 2.

Driveway looks great though. Haha. No beers tomorrow morning for me I guess.

The planes are fine. It's a certain natural gas plant In CT with a 20 miles felt blast radius you need to worry about.

    Kidding.

Work is fine. It's the drive home that sucks. But I digress.

I have a 2nd Gen, but its mostly the same...

I have the Tacoma World Starter Pack Lift:
Bilstein 5100s on all four wheels, with the Fronts set on the 3rd Ring up, for just under 2 inches in the front.
Wheeler's Add-A-Leaf (I added it to a stock Leaf Pack off a 3rd Gen, and replaced my old Leaf Packs) for 2 inches in the back (maybe 2.5, I'm not sure, since I didn't measure before/after).

Total cost on suspension components was ~$400, including $60 for the leafs of the 3rd gen.

Op to sum it up. Spacers will lift but will sacrifice ride. These trucks can be lifted 2-3" with coil overs or aftermarket suspension. The next step up is a drop bracket which is a but more work but can get you past the 2-3".

Common affordable lifts are bilstien 5100 and/or old man emu (sometimes a hybrid).

265/75r16 or pizza cutters are around as big as you can go before you have to cut a pesky body mount back to fit 33's, results may very.

And there's a few good vendors on here that can answer all your questions and treat people well.

Good luck and congrats on the truck

OP FYI. If you get a drop bracket lift you run the risk (here in) of getting diss-ed. :annoyed:

Next question is how difficult and how long will it take to install front shocks and shocks or AAL's for the rear?

I know this will go against the grain but my advice is don't lift it (unless you plan on fording some streams/rivers or going on some serious trails etc) I think the TRDs look great just as they are.

Taking my time, including setting up and clean up and many coffee brakes: 2-4 hours for the front coilovers and 2-4 hours for the back shocks. My coils were pre installed on the shocks so I did not have to deal with that. There is a learning curve from driver side to passenger side.

Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road is great. Call or email her if you have any questions.

I went with bilstein 5100s all around, headstrong 2” coils up front and headstrong progressive AAL in the rear on my 08. Truck rides great. Stiffer than the stock OR suspension but better IMO.
