I forgot to take hub to fender measurements before lift install. I am trying to troubleshoot some lift height issues. If u are running a 2.5 lift, what are your hub to fender measurements?

Don't exceed 23" on the front.

I am currently at 22”. I originally had coils that were supposed to give me a 2” lift and I was at 21.5. I kept reading that stock was 21. So I switched out coils that were rated for 3” but actual numbers from Tacoma users were 2.5 ish. So now I’m sitting at 22”. When I first put coils on I had a ground to fender of 38 and figured it would settle half inch or so which would bring me level to my rear where I have a 1.5 3 leaf aal and OL taken out. Before install I had 36 ground to fender. Now I’m at 36.5. I drove home after install when I woke up i still had a little bro lean I drove a half mile to a level pullout and measured the 36.5 ground to fender and 2” hub to fender. I feel like I’m going crazy with my overall measurements and keep thinking I have done something wrong. I should at least be level with my 1.5” rear lift when I have front coils rated for at least 2.5 inches. I have sliders on and that is my only additional weight and seems that would spread across the vehicle pretty evenly.

Even stock vehicles vary on their height by a small amount. Years ago I was in the same situation as you and actually went to a dealership and measured trucks in their lot. Hub to fender varies by as much as a 1/2 inch, so basing your measurements on others is irrelevant. The 23" hub to fender is based on the angle of the CVs. Anything beyond that and the boot fins may begin to rub on each other on the street and will eventually wear a hole in them and start slinging grease. With my first lift kit I had this issue but caught it before it wore through. I adjusted my Coilovers down and the boots stopped rubbing.

Thanks for that. I was kicking myself for not taking initial measurements the first time. I kept reading posts of people not doing it and thinking, why would you not measure before a lift. Then I got my kit and was so giddy about installing it that I forgot that I hadn’t measured and by then I had the front end taken apart:facepalm: so I guess I will never know. However I have decided that I like where I am at and currently have a .5” rake which I think is good. I really just want to make sure I didn’t goof anything up on install. Thanks again.

21” is the stock height center of wheel to fender on the TRD OR

So with 2.5” you would be at 23.5”

And this is why I don’t understand my lift. Unless I measure from the bottom of the center part of the hub cap. From dead center hub is 22”. I have a brand new set of coils that are said to give a 3” lift light load. Most everyone reports a 2.5-2.75 with these coils. I had same issue with the coils that were one step down that was supposed to give me two but only got one inch. They sent me new longer coils and only gained 1/2” per my hub to fender measurements. I feel like I have personally done something wrong.

Take a pick of your front end from the side and front. (hide your plate ...)

Are you running a stock bumper? Two batteries? Sliders? ...anything else?

    Also,

The third gen Tacoma with a V6 is 300 lbs heavier in the front than a 2nd gen with a V6.

The stock TRD OR coil is a 700#. The valving of the stock shocks is soft

Thanks. I will take a pic tomorrow if I can. I do have RCI sliders but felt like that weight was evenly distributed. I understand the weight difference between the gens and double checked the manufacturer stating this was specific to 3rd gen. I was certain to ask if given numbers for 3rd gens. Is it possible that I did something on install that did not give me the full coil potential? Thank you so much for your help.

Photos of your front end suspension would help.

I will get this tomorrow if I can. Here is one that I took but is farther away. Just installed jba uca a few days before lift. I have appt. for alignment on Tues. I have to drive 150 miles just for alignment so hope that’s ok. F2097DF7-F2A1-4608-9415-AEAC04F9189A.jpg

I even added a 1/4” top plate spacer to driver side. Both sides are dead even.

B1FDFD92-A466-4B87-86DE-310F190DF3B8.jpg As it sits here I am at 22.5 center hub to fender on rear with a 1.5” 3 lead aal from headstrong with ol taken out and in front I am at 22 dead on both sides. I am beginning to feel that the 21” stock height measurements are taken from bottom of center cap because that is exactly 2.5” lift. However if this is the case I should be level to the rear. I’m totally confused at this point.

It’s not likely the sliders by themselves. What shocks are they? Stock? And what brand springs again?

That looks almost exactly like my truck and I’m sitting at exactly 2” (ideal)

    I think it looks great!

My pic angle is weird, but

Wait until you get your alignment then remeasure. See if that changes it. Should be center of the hub. Also use a level from the wheel if it doesn’t sit flush with the fender that way you measure straight up and down and it’s leveled. That’s how I measure. On flat ground of course

Will def. check after alignment. I was wondering if during install I did anything wrong with the cam bolts. I put floor jack under LCA and fully compressed coil to put it under load while torquing LCA bolts to 135 lbs. however after putting truck back on ground I was nose high so don’t think that did anything to take away from lift. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

Thanks. I do like the way it looks and hope it stays that way. I am just trying to wrap my head around it all. I am one of those people who has to know how things work. Also I just want to make sure I didn’t mess Anything up.
