    4.0L engines, will OEM manifolds from a 2015 fit on a 2006?

Much appreciated. Visual smog shouldn’t be a problem. Just need the computer to say it’s ok.

Looking at the gaskets they look different, anyone actually done this? Which manifold gasket should I use.

No, he won’t. The tubes will just dead end at the head walls.

tubes could actually be totally cut off and it wouldn’t matter. Might make install easier too.

You can use either the ones I sent you (2012-15) or 2005-11.

If that failed in CA or NY then the smog tech is an idiot. The earlier 2005-11 trucks don’t have SAIS, so he should only care about the presence of the CARB compliant cats. A referee would clear that up if the smogger is too stoned.

Again, block off plates aren’t necessary but if he really wanted to use them for some reason, then only 2 would be needed, one per side because THE TRUCK HAS NO SAIS! Easy to DIY with a drill and angle grinder.

@hx989 you are 100% correct about not needing a block plate. Last time I did exhaust manifolds was on my 2.7L 1997 Tacoma. I think I went through four manifolds before I broke down and got headers .

Looking at the 2.5 gen vs the 2.0 gen my only thought is making sure that there is a good seat between the manifold flange and the engine. I’m guessing (hoping) the mounting surface on the engine allows for the use of the 2.5 gen gasket as it looks like it will make better contact around the manifold. Just want to make sure I get a good seal. Photos of rock auto gaskets for comparison. IMG_9170.jpgIMG_9169.jpg

I didn’t realize the sais tubes went into the block I thought they went straight to the headers. It’s been a while since I’ve messed with mine. but I will stand by what I said about smog. Some are idiots and or very picky on what they let pass. If something looks out of place they might question and fail you for visual.

Has this exact thing happened to you? Doubt this has ever happened due to 12-15 cats on a 05-11 truck, ever. And if it did, a referee would clean it up right quick.

I’ve passed with long tube headers in CA, haha. And some can be convinced with an extra Benjamin.

I only ever start a question thread because I can’t find the answer with the search function.

What I’m really wondering is if the mating surface between the manifold and gasket and engine will make a good seal. The reason I even have this question is because of what I circled in red in the photos below. It appears there is an indentation on the manifold for the gasket to seat. But is the surface of the engine flat? And will I be able to get a good (perfect) seal by using a 2015 manifold/cat on a 2006? IMG_9171.jpgIMG_9172.jpg
