yeah its going to be nice when i go on my trips up and down the east coast. Another reason i got the new truck....warranty :)

i got a Extang Full tilt bed cover to help with the MPG...yeah i know...mythbusters....but they NEVER tested the trucks with stuff in the bed to burst the "bubble" the bed created....im going to NC with a motorcycle frame and luggage UNDER the bed cover so...im hoping for 30mpgs or better. Fresh 0w20 oil change also to help.

Exactly, different needs different trucks. thats whats great about having CHOICES!!! id do the V6 if i was alittle fatter in the wallet and didnt care as much, but im CHEAP LOL!!!!!!

When U R done, if you remember, post your MPG. I'm interested how close you get to 30MPG. I go to B'mo from Jersey quite a lot and can get in the high 20's but if you get 30 I need 2 know how 2 do that. You got the same set up as I have. 2.7 5 sp. Good Luck. Thanks.[IMG]

Wanted a manual so the 4.0 was out of the question with all the 6 speed issues. No towing just light hauling. I do a lot of highway and wanted to keep long term.

Easier to work on and less repairs were also selling points. I drove an auto V6 when I picked up my truck and agree if someone needs towing or NEEDS that power then definetly go for that. If you are on the fence don't get the 4cyl for mpg, the 3 or 4 extra(on 4x4) isn't enough to sway any regrets you may have later on.

I guess I got lucky to nab a 4 with the SR5. I have looked before and after and haven't found another one in MA/NH/CT area with 5 speed. It came with steels but I didn't mind as I painted them black soon after. There are two SR5 packages for my area and one comes without alloys.

I originally went to the dealer for a reg cab 4 x 4 which would be my daily driver. After comparing the options of the reg cab vs. the trd sport DC I had to get the DC. I heard of the less maintenance/problems of the 4 cylinder along with the rated better mpg but the overall use/options/looks and resale of the 4.0 automatic DC had me sold. But like everyone said it depends on what your use will be. Theres no better answer its just what you prefer to have/not have.

I got the 2.7 for fuel economy reasons. I put 100 miles a day on a vehicle. That adds up quick at the pump. So far my truck is breaking in nicely. Tank #3 came in at 25.8 mpg. I have 910 miles on it as of the gas stop.

    I got the 2.7 because:
    1) The engine will last for-ev-er
    2) I don't need the extra power (I drive like grandma and rarely tow/haul)
    3) There is more room in the engine bay to do maintenance (except that the oil filter is stuffed underneath the motor - dumb move Toyota - wth?)
    4) I don't go for the "manly man" bs so all my v6-pushing buddies can kick rocks
    5) Considering the above, an extra 3-4mpg is just a bonus for my budget

I did the calculations since I have a 115 mile per day commute (well, 190 days out of the year). The extra cost for gas for my V6 is around $450. Since I carpool most of the time, it's really closer to $300.

I decided that was a reasonable opportunity cost to get the power and acceleration I prefer.

Well I wanted a 4.o access cab, but all I qualified for with that CASH FOR CLUNKERS thing was the 2.7 so I got it. Now I want to super charge it just to keep mopeds from passing me on the highway.

How fast is a moped in Hawaii ? I look down at the dashboard and I'm doing 85 to 90 without even trying.

Actually in Hawaii mopeds are kinda cool when your in high school, and all the kids put perfomance pipes and borekits to make them fly, one of my friends got clocked doing 85 in a 55mph zone, I had to pick him up on the side of the highway.

I have a 2.7 and it can't get out of it's own way, reminds me of the scion xb I had a few years back... Put the petal to the floor in 3rd and pray you can make it to 50 or so before you run out of highway on-ramp or rpm's, whichever comes first.
I would have loved a 4.0 but it wasn't happening on my budget. Not only that but my last vehicle was a modded '03 350z so I think the 4.0 would have been a let down as well. Oh well, I plan on having this truck forever, if I want some gofast I'll have to ride my beat up gixxer.

I used to have the 2.7. I turned it into a desert runner/jumper and had a lot of fun with it, but i eventually got tired of it falling short in the highway cruising department. I now have the 4.0 and i love it and when i did the math, it worked out to be about the same in gas mileage due to the extra RPMs needed to cruise in the 2.7.
