I recently bought a 16 2.7 auto 4x4 for a good price. So far I absolutely hate the truck, it’s sitting in a 265x70x17 tire with a levelling kit. With this set up it’s a complete dog and get terrible fuel millage.

I’m looking for guys who have real world drove a set up like I have but with 5:29s, are you glad you did it. Or is the 4cyl always going to be a dog and hard on fuel. Or should I sell it and buy a 1/2 ton that is comparable on fuel but toes better and has ample power.

I've got a bone stock 2013 Tacoma 2.7 and it's not great on gas. I get roughly 17mpg, I'd swap to a 6cyl any day of the week and lose the 2mpg if I could, otherwise I like my truck, it does what I need it to do. Power will always be lacking, I've driven a 6cyl and it's a big difference, but not enough to sway me to trade in a paid for truck.

since it's a consideration of yours, i would recommend getting a full size with a v8 for the reasons stated. you will like it a whole lot better. a gear change in the tacoma won't satisfy you.

I must be shit on the 2.7 week. You'd be better off pulling the lift, finding some 245 takeoffs on marketplace and looking into some performance mods if you wanted to make it better, but if power is that much of an issue you should sell it and buy something else.

5-6 gear is useless. I’m not looking for a power house but at least something that’s comfortable using all its gears.

I have an ‘05 w the 2.7 on stock wheels (245/75R16 winter and summer). I get 20+ with mixed driving. I’ve got a regear to 4.56 heading my way soon and I’ll report back any observations. It’s 2wd and pretty light at 3400 lbs. a DC with gear might be different. I’m sure the 4wd is a little bit too, even when not used.

My dad has an ‘06 w the 4.0 and AT, it zooms compared to mine.

I test drove a ‘20 2.7 AC SX and liked everything except the engine. AT and 4 cylinder just felt too lame to me. The MT doesn’t have any more power but the explicit control is nice. It just bogs in 1st and 2nd plus the open diff is useless on wet grass so I’m hoping the new third improves on both those aspects.

there is no good price if you hate it,,,, sell it. The 4 cylinder is underpowered, but a great engine. In another post, you mention wanting to hold all gears,, the V6 is much more powerful and will not either. This is a heavy, un aerodynamic truck, that has 2 overdrive gears (5th and 6th) geared for emissions and economy,,,, just the way things are. I have a work truck the F150 3.5 eco boost and it doesn't ever stop shifting,,, it's a constant state of.

I’m talking holding gears with 5:29s. It constantly hunts between 4-5 on the hwy with stock gears.

That why I’m looking for guys who have experience with 5:29s in them.

This is the reason no matter what direction I go in the future, my next purchase will be a manual tranny. I love my 2017 Taco but I absolutely despise the tranny.

What’s a shit ton of weight. I’d like to comfortably tow my sxs on a trailer, and get decent mpg empty.

Revert it to stock tire size or buy a TRX.

I’ve got a diesel, has no one opened their eyes and noticed a 4cyl is completely gutless on bigger tires? Facebook gave the same valuable information as here so far.

Yes and gearing offsets bigger tires… I’m looking for people who have ran the gears before I waste 3k and find out the 4cyl is still completely gutless.
