Just picked my 2014 2.7 4wd manual SC 41k ,up from the dealership after having the recall and service and alignment done. Before I took it in I let it idle for ten or so minutes givin little rev here and there.. I crawled under my rig and the rear cat is like a foot and a half away from my chest , I could feel the heat coming off of it about to burn thru my shirt .the front was fine. So after I picked it up I did the same thing and I could touch the cat with my hands ,has more power . I also have an intake and exhaust so it's much easier to tell how it's running.id say it was an improvement .. Although I hate cats and it will live on the shelf soon..

Had the recall done on my 2012 reg cab. Noticed the Mpg's on the first couple of tanks afterward were like when I bought it new, even with bigger tires. Now it's gone back getting so so Mpg's again. They must have reset something back to factory new when the new cat was replaced. I drive it conservatively most of the time. Anyone else notice better Mpg's after having the recall done?

    Nope.

I've had 3 cats, no mileage change on any of them.

After the recall work I got just under 400 miles to the tank when the light came on, thats with 31" tires compared to factory 27" that my 5 lug came with new. Now after several tanks its back to 320-350 miles when the light comes on. Dealer might have reset the computer at the time and now it has learned my driving habits again. Just a guess. Wish I could reset it every tank if thats true.

Yeah i don't really monitor mpg because I drive crazy all the time .. I know the 5000 mile oil change interval is bull s. And I still do every 3000 miles .. I notice when oil is about 2500 miles I burn thru tanks faster.. good to know the cat will fail again soon. I'll have to build a high flow test pipe to run full time. Smog stuff sucks look how it's choking out new diesels and mpg.. My 96 2.4 has it goin on with long tube header ,throttle body spacer ,intake , flow master and high flow cat .. Aside from the throttle body spacer and lead foot , I was consistently getting 25 mpg 2wd

    Never had a CEL.

Original disintegrated at 12k miles and was replaced. That replacement was replaced under this current program at 44k.

I know a guy who has gone through 5 cats on his 2.7 with less miles than me. Hoping it's a failure at the catalytic converter manufacturing level and not a symptom of some flawed engine design that eats cats like crazy.

$1400 each time would piss me off pretty quickly, glad it's covered under Toyota.

I'm at the dealership dropping my truck as we speak. Doubt there'll be any noticeable difference.

It won't be a performance gain. You may net a bit more MPG but not much. Give it some time to recalibrate to the new CAT. You won't know until it has gone through a relearn period.

The only way anything would be different is if the old cat was already coming apart and creating a restrictive problem. The restriction can be noisy (rattles) but fairly minor in performance impacts, or as much as a 'no run' condition from being a complete shutdown of the exhaust stream.

This does occur, hence the campaign.

If a change out is really just a pre-emptive repair, as the campaign is intended to be, nothing will be different.

My friend and fellow TWer at the dealership hooked me up with the TRD cat.

    Sweet!

Did you get the sticker kit too? Or did he hold back on you?
