2.7 higher payload than 4.0

    I was just crusin the tacoma specs, and found out my reg cab 2.7 4x4 has a higher payload than all of the 4.0s. Anybody know why this is? Does it only have to do with the size of the bed?

    Has to do with shared components and thier limits. You have the same brakes, steering and suspension basically and they have larger cabs and a heavier engine. The design in general can only handle so much safely.

    this is what payload says on the linke to the "2"

    Payload is the GVWR minus curb weight and includes weight of occupants, optional equipment and cargo, limited by weight distribution. Payload is not the Vehicle Capacity Weight as defined by FMVSS 110, which will vary according to installed optional equipment.


    also, i'm with wolfpack, it looks lower to me, but it would make more sense to me if it was higher
