5100's all 4 corners (front at 2.5"), rear tsb springs with 1.5" AAL, 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2's
All that being said, I would agree the 2.7 is likely very "bullet proof". I recall many 2.4 that you just could not kill.

It's not bullet proof, just shot one (but not mine) and the bullet went into the block!

O.K. seriously, look at the resale, ratings by consumer report(yes they arent perfect), find someome like my dad who has nearly 210k on a corola(not a 2.7 ), and my uncle with 190k on a 2.7 l tacoma.... u begin to find a common thread.
Next ,consider the maintainance schedule with a timing chain , not a timing belt, 120k spark plug change.... still doesn't prove.... but u see more going into reputation.
I wont talk about my brother in laws 4.0 ranger , my sister's bronco2 with a 2.8l, or my dakota with a v-8 . We all sold em off before 100k due to various issues, you most likely heard of over the years.
I'm looking foreward to NOT going back to a dealership for warped heads, oil in the air intake, overheating engine, more shop fees, repeated broken charge system, and blown a/c compressors.
It could still happen to me , but from what I've seen , its far less likely.

Forged connecting rods, forged pistons, low rev limit, piston oil squirters..... Basically race engine specifications, except the really low rev limit. Should last for a long time, all else being equal.

exactly...they make turbo engines like this from the factory, and we don't have any boost at all, even though the engine is ready for it...hmmm, boost... :D

Its been difficult getting used to my little 2.7. I sold my 04 GTO to get my taco and to be honest my 2.7 gets around the same milage as the pushrod 5.7 V8. But i gotta say my toyota has opend new doors as long as i have a die hard do it all truck instead of a fast car it does feel better and a much smarter investement. Once my truck is paid off i can get a new challenger. My taco replaced my old 86 nissan hardbody V6 5 speed my dad bought it brand new it had 327,000 miles on when i sold it last year. I did 5 timming belts on it and 2 cluthes it was a 2 wheel drive. When i bought my tacoma i felt very confident that the only things i shold ever have to worry about is clutches, tires, brakes, tunes ups and basic maintenance. Alowing me plenty of time and money to spend on my 1958 plymouth and someday new challenger. But i will always have my trusty toyota awww what a piece of mind this little 2.7 gives me.

I was in the same boat as you. Traded an 01 Mustang in for my Tacoma. About the same gas mileage, but the kayak doesn't look as goofy hanging out the back of the truck as it did on the roof of the Stang. :D
