    Before '06 I had a succesion of 5.0 Mustangs. Most with go fast mods. While I wouldn't say the 302 roller engines were unreliable, I was always having to tinker with something under the hood. In '06 I bought my first Tacoma an '07 regular cab 2WD AT. I only put about 30K on it, but other than oil changes I never raised the hood, I just jumpe din and drove it where ever I wanted to go with no concern. When I decided I wanted something to haul the kids to school in, I traded it in on an '09 Access Cab 2WD SR5 AT. I couldn't be more pleased with the two tacomas I have had, both with the 2.7.

    now its just too bad the 4.0l has to be sooooo looooouuuud, kinda makes me want a 2.7l, fucking thing ticks like a B and I think my cats or gone to shit could be another reason why my motor is so noisy

    I had the 2.7 in my 95 Taco that went to the bone yard for the rusted frame. It had 147,000 miles and didn't burn a drop of oil. I never had a problem with it. I would still have that truck if it wasn't for the frame.

    If the 2.7 had 179hp and 200 ft lbs of torque it would be perfect.

    I just bumped the current numbers by 20. I drive up mountain passes regularly and there are times where I would like more power or different gearing. The power of my wife’s Subaru is just right at 165hp and 166 ft lbs of torque on a car that weighs 3140 lbs. The equivalent numbers on my truck would be 189hp and 191 ft lbs of torque.

    Ya but to get 20 hp?

    I will say that 93 octane makes a huge difference on downshifting while going up hills on the interstate

    well, true, but if hes running a 4 banger, it wont really do a thing. us 4 cyl guys' engines arent high compression like the 6 cyls. so payin the extra money for high test, wont really help. unless, hes S/C or turboed.

    Ours are actually pretty high compression. Maybe not high enough to be qualified as high compression, but they are high enough compression that I notice a huge increase in using 93 octane. 9.5 compression ratio is pretty high

    oh ok. thats interesting. you see, i always knew that the 6s were classified as high compression engines. but i didnt know that ours were close to being high compression. im sure tho that ours our more high compression than any other 4 cyl out there for trucks

    it makes you slower and burn more gas...it also idles rougher.

    the valve clatter is super loud

    and i put 92 in twice..went noticeably slower and the idle went to sh it...so i put 87 and it went back to normal lol

    my truck's 2.7 is stock however...so idk if headers would make a difference...wouldn't think so but you never know
