That must have been for a V-6. My owners manual says 1750 payload for my 2004 2.7 4X4 and 3500 tow capacity. As slow as it is empty I have to wonder how it would ever pull that kind of weight in the bed or in a trailer behind it. I guess they will though because many on this forum do.

Hello, my 97 2.4l with 5 speed 2wd daily pulls 6 1/2 x 16' 2axle utility loaded with lawn equipment or subcompact tractor with loader and 3pt attachments. trailer brakes with wireless controller. truck rated to pull 3500 pounds but at or over on regular basis. key points with only 140 something HP your not going anywhere fast stop light to stop light so take it easy let Taco do what does best (get er done) stopping and safety paramount good working trailer brakes leave plenty room between Taco and car in front, proper loading of trailer over axles, proper tie downs, your good to go!!

I certainly don't recommend this but my '00 5 speed 2.7 with 328K miles on it pulled my Tahoe the other day when I needed to move it 6 miles. Apparently, the dolly is not designed to pull a Tahoe(wheel spacing is a bit wide). I kept my distance from cars in front of me so I had plenty of room to stop. I also said quite a few prayers while in route. :) I will never do it again and don't recommend anyone else do it either. I should have got it towed instead.

Approx 1200-1400 pounds of mulch, not including the 5x10 trailer weight. Truck goes fine below 55mph but once u start getting above that, it REALLY starts hunting for gears. I’ve found towing a heavy load (for this truck) the best sweet spot is S4 with ect on.

I'm just now becoming a truck guy, but right after I bought my 2003 2.7L AT, a local guy at the recycle-yard loaded the bed to overflowing with wet, fine-sifted mulch. The guy was being an ass, and did it as a prank, then told me that he'd wait while I removed some of it for my little truck (he drove a stupid looking Silverado). Scale said somewhere north of 1800 pounds. Me, not knowing any better, I drove the 12 miles home. The truck felt heavy, and it hunted for lower gears so I disabled OD. I didn't know the difference between towing and bed capacity. Truck survived without issue.

That same truck later pulled my 2300 pound race car(with U-haul dolly), 20 gallons of fuel, tools, tires/wheels, parts and three passengers through the Ozark Mountains. I wouldn't dream of passing anything (even a Geo Metro went around me going uphill).

    I'm impressed with these trucks

2017 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 Manual
Hello all, new to this. I do hope you could help me. I have a 2017 Tacoma Access cab with a 2.7 4 cyl, manual 5spd trans and 4x4. I am looking to tow a boat that is 2750 lbs., plus a 700lbs. Trailer. My concern is not so much with towing, but with pulling this amount of weight out of the water up the ramp. Do you think I can do it without damaging my truck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With your truck being 4wd, I think you will be fine pulling the boat out of the water. 4w Lo and your good to go. Pull to level spot and put back in 2wd.

Editing this post to say that this is not idea. Leave yourself more room to stop. Also, if you have lower gears it will help with take off(easier on clutch too). I have 4.30 gears and have gotten used to pulling 3000 lb trailer with rock on it but I definitely miss my 5.3L Tahoe when towing.
