I have 98 Tacoma 4x4 manual trans w/2.7L motor. I think I’ve blown the motor. What’s some of the best/cheap options for replacement? Rebuild, swap for another used one, or will a 2nd gen 2.7L motor work without too much modification? What about diesel options?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
What are the symptoms with the motor?

1st step is verify your motor is actually toast and why.

Then you have a basis to evaluate from.

Best cheap is another 2.7. Any kind of swap is going to be custom $$$, except maybe for a 1st gen 2.4

It was idled hot for maybe a hour. Puffs white smoke and runs rough now.
