    So many things.
You need a motor with all the correct accessories, ECU and harness. You need either r150f or a340f and matching transfer case. You will need to move the motor mounts on the frame about an inch. If going auto to manual transmission you will need to relocate your transmission crossmember and get a clutch and pedal set up.
That's the basics there is a lot more involved with the details.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Research and read every swap thread you can find .How hard depends on your level of skill and how fast you can learn new skills.

Have all the electrical schematics for all the vehicles involved. Some people need to source out the electrical work it can be to overwhelming for some

Your Tacoma in essence becomes what ever year engine you end up with . 3rd generation 3.4 4 Runners make great donor vehicles.

Every swap that I did I bought the complete Donor vehicle had it sitting a few feet away . saves hours and money chasing forgotten parts.

Would you plan on installing a new timing belt while the engine is out?

    Replacing belts and hoses??

If you could find one that rusted out or wrecked - get the whole thing that way you have everything you need to just swap it all over. I'd go 3.4 and 5 speed. You can find em like that for quite a deal sometimes.

If power is what you’re after, I’d just put a small turbo on the 2.7. You’ll get more power than you would swapping in a 3.4 and probably be just as cheap if not cheaper. The 2/3rz love a little boost.
