2.7 with turbo makes ~30% less power than stock 3.5 (at least with common turbo kits for the engine) and costs more than the price difference between the two. It is more logical to fill that space with more engine, rather than a turbo with smaller engine.

    https://www.urdusa.com/urd-mk3-supercharger-kit-2016-tacoma-2-7l-2tr-fe-4-cylinder/

On never engines that are designed to be turbo charged, it could make sense (like 2.0 turbo on new wranglers almost makes as much as power as the 3.6 V6). But not in this case.

    How do you know that?

3.5 is a lexus engine, it will be just fine. You hear lots of lexus's engines grenading? I dont, i actually hear the opposite.

I had one and, while it doesn't have the power, altitude was not an issue. I live in NM and drove it over 10,000 ft in elevation. No difference.

Haha not a lot is it. But that’s not the whole story. The 3rd gen 2.7L automatic has a 4.30 rear end compared to the 3.5L automatic 3.91 rear end. And what rpm is the power and torque at? Quoting from another excellent post:
    Here's a fun 3.5L fact:
Maximum Torque is attained at 4600 RPM
Maximum HP is attained at 6000 RPM (!)

    Fun 2.7L Fact:
Maximum Torque is attained at 3800 RPM
Maximum HP is attained at 5200 RPM

    You are correct sir.

All 3rd gen MTs come with 4.30 rear end as well ;)

Maybe thats why i dont understand the lack of power complaint from some owners?:notsure:

Yes, it just might. And I knew that ;) And your MT also has stronger 1st -6th gear ratios. I had manuals for many years though and it’s time to let the transmission do the work for me :)

    Great info, thanks.

Nothing wrong with having an AT. I drove 2 different 19 off roads with AT and they drove fantastic, not sure whats all this complaining is about. I get that there were some poorly calibrated earlier models though. My best bud owns 19 OR AT and absolutely loves it, he laughs at comments on TW.

AT is just not cup of tea and i will row my own gears until i can. Its funny, i was driving and telling my wife that some guys say 3rd gen v6 is slow, she says: "well they should maybe come for a ride with you". I laughed and told her thats exactly what i posted earlier.

I mean if you are coming from a twin turbo 6.3 AMG Benz then yeah, taco is slow.

Hahahahahahaha. No, riding with you will not change my mind that Tacomas are slow. It's ok though, they are trucks and not built to be fast.

    Sure.

My truck is light on its feet, i push the limits a lot. With stiff sport suspension its handles amazing on the pavement, especially with rock hard E loads.

You would be very surprised what this tacoma can do sir.

I have the performance tune (premium SFOB) but on stock tune it was quick as well, no complaints there.

Based on your MT gearing I have no doubt you have the fastest stock 3rd gen out the gate. And for a 2.7L, my Tacoma 4.30 diff would have drug my 2007 Colorado all over the place in first gear, it certainly has good low end gearing and torque.

A truck that drives and handles well still drives and handles like a truck. The Tacomas have never impressed me from a driving/handling/speed aspect because they just aren't made for that or good at it.

Ok, The trd sport is. I drove a lowered 99E43 and my taco drove way better in all aspects. I had a huge grin after i drove the E43.

Do you even own a 3rd gen? Or you just repeat what everyone says on here?

I never drove colorados but, i was a looking at a 5cyl models and i think i made a good choice going with 07 4.0 ranger.:)

The colorados did look very cool, those large headlights were good looking IMO.

Had a customer with lifted gladiator with 33s. He told me it was the biggest POS he has ever owned. I came back 2 weeks later to finish the job and he had a brand new F150 in his driveway.

Cant imagine these 3.6 fiat engines being any good.

I’m a slow poke anyway, so the 3rd gen 2.7 suits my driving style. Going up to Cloudcroft, NM (9000 Ft) you have to be proactive and aggressive with downshifts to keep up with traffic. If you do this it will get the job done.
