Someone smarter than me should confirm this but that 16 gallon spec includes a reserve. I highly doubt anyone has every used all 16 gallons in a fill up. I'd imagine the average fill up is 13-14 gallons

Found the info i was looking for on Edmunds

    http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/2001/features-specs.html?style=100001896

They are saying 18.5 gal tank with w/ 15/18 MPG

So if I go worse case scenario 18g tank w/ 15 mpg thatll = 270 total

So again if im putting in 14-15g per fill @ about 200 miles im averaging 14ish mpg so i guess im right in there

So i guess this is where Fuelly will come in for help on tracking

I will say this my fuel gauge by no means makes me feel there is 18 gallons in my tank it hits E and thats where im only putting in 14-15 gallons and i should have 3-4 gallons left equalling 45-60 miles ( on the low end )

1st gens have an 18 gallon tank. My light would come on and i would immediately find a shell station and fill up with about 16 gallons.

4runners and 2nd gen tacos have a 21 gallon tank and my light comes on and i fill up with about 18 gallons.

Honestly, I don't know if it would be worth it to get rid of a 2010 to get an older Tacoma. It might make more sense in the long run to stick with what you have and simply pay it off - if it isn't paid off already.

Yeah the point of it saying "E" is to get the driver to fill up before you empty the reserve.

All depends on your situation. I sold my 05 that was paid for, paid off a bunch of debt, and bought my 96. I don't plan on keeping it for more than a few years when I can afford to get another new one. Maybe by then they will have come out with one that gets better mileage. Although they typically need more work parts are a lot cheaper (and more readily available used) for first gens than second gens too.
