    33" bfg mud terrains, cold air intake, flowmaster with side exhaust, manual swapped, manual hub swapped, lifted on bilsteins
    Hmmmmmm my 2.7, manual trans and hub swapped, 4.56 gears and I’m averaging 14MPG no matter what gas I use. Please share your secret LOL

    2.7 w/auto, 4WU 3 link, F & R Diamonds, ARB's F/R w/ Yukon 5.29's, Inchworm 4.7 Lefty, Deavers, ARB OBA, Schrockworks up front.
    In CA, we have winter and summer fuel. As my truck gained close to 1,200 lbs after the SAC, I get better mileage in the summer. Far worse in the winter. Count your blessings that you get what you get.

    Why not? You haven’t reached your torque peak at <3500 RPM.

    I've never needed to, plus it always makes me feel like I'm gonna break it when the engine whines. I prefer mpg over going fast. It's a truck that I need to last a long time.

    The function of torque isn’t going fast. It’s to get you moving. Putting the engine at torque peak will get you merged on the freeway with less drama.

    A Diesel engine in a semi has 1500+ ft lbs and it’s done that way to move heavy loads efficiently — not to go fast.

    I get the purpose of torque, but I have no problem moving or getting up to speed by my standard of driving. Maybe it isn't fast enough for some but that sounds like their problem. Like I said, I have never needed to go over 3500 RPM's to get anything done in my truck. I've driven 22R/RE's my whole life so I'm used to putting around at low torque/speed.

    Camper top, Custom platform with drawers & trays underneath.
    So I get 19.5 mpg on the highway avg. 65 mph. Thats 2.7 manual hubs auto tranny 255/75 15 tires. Keeping the rpms below 2k really helps, but not possible climbing long grades or accelerating. AC on or off doesn't seem to make a big difference unless I have a heavy foot. In town more like 16 mpg. I've been using regular 87 octane ethanol (yuck). Been considering a fill up with pure gas to see if there's a difference, but idle is smooth with etho gas so far. Also winter blend gas is much worse for mpg. If I want mpg or plush ride, I drive the Camry.

    Cool.

    I have a lot of miles on 22R/22RE powered trucks too. When I got my 2.7 powered truck, I thought it was a beast compared to the tired 22RE I had before it. The 2.7 is miles better than the 22RE.

    Also the main reason I baby this motor, it's going in my 84 4Runner once I get another DD. 500 lbs lighter and solid front axle.

    Seems average. My 98, 4x4 reg cab 5 speed on the smaller tires (225-75-15) used to get 20-20.5mpg city or highway. Got Kumho SATs and now get 19.5mpgs no matter how slow or fast I drive.

    My 1995.5 2.7L, auto, ext cab, 4x4 has gotten average of 18.9 mpg over the last three tanks. That's combined highway/city w/o A/C. I just put a set of 2001 4Runner wheels with 265/70/R16 on to replace my 15 inch steels. Shift points seem almost the same, but I am noticing a MPH drop in long uphill grades unless I apply more pedal, so I am expecting a drop of at least 1-2 MPG. I have 4:10 rear ratio.

    1997 extra cab, 2.7 manual, manual hubs, 33"x10.50 ko2s, 4.10s, I average 20-22 mpg daily driving(mixed) no a/c, on 85 octane 10% ethanol, rarely shift below 2500 rpm. Lower rpm does NOT always mean better fuel economy, it's harder to lug around everywhere vs having some rpms. A properly running vehicle is the biggest factor

    22.5ish in my 2.4l mt 2wd base truck.

    18 in any 4x4 is a major feat.

    I posted comments about my 1650 mile trip in a 2001 Tacoma 2.7L 4wd,5mt a week or so ago. Driving essentially 1650 miles at 65 mph, the average mpg was 23.5. One leg of the trip, I got 25 mpg but I had a tailwind for several hundred miles.

    The best I've ever seen was 26 MPG when my truck was bone stock on P265/70r16 tires, A/C off, traveling a few hundred miles on 55-65 MPH two lane highways. I usually get 18.5-19.5 in city driving with the A/C on. I did recently achieve 22.5 MPG highway, A/C cranked, a few hundred pounds of stuff in the bed, E-rated tires, steel wheels, lifted, a little bit of armor. I drove almost 300 miles on dirt, aired down to 22 PSI, A/C cranked, frequently in 4-LO and still got 18.5 MPG. That one really surprised me.

    My year round average over 20,000 miles is 18.3. How are you guys linking your Fuelly data here by the way? I have the 3.4 5 speed. I just cleand my MAF sensor and I'm betting I'm going to see a 1.5 to 2 mpg increase based on getting about 19 while towing around 1000 lbs and hauling 3 guys with tools all day yesterday through the foothills of the White Mountains.
