Just tell him you're under-compensating for your giant horse cock, that's what I tell my brother whose diesel pickup costs more per month than my mortgage.

The smallish torque gains are a nice bonus but looks like the real benefit is by lowering peak torque by 800-1000rpm. That should help this little motor turn those bug tractor tires.

And there should be zero difference between auto vs stick with how this header performs. Obviously if you have a stick it's easier to keep it in optimum power band

I don't know what kind of power it will take to fully satisfy you, but I'm quite sure that you will be much happier with 4.88 gears. 5.13s would be better, but they don't make them for our diffs.
I have a regular cab with 285/75-16s, auto trans, and 4.88s. It's got plenty of "go". I run about 2800 RPMs at 80 MPH. Gets 17.5 MPGs at that speed and better in town and it's a pleasure to drive.

Well, I am not trying to have a race truck. Just want more power so my truck isn't struggling. Sounds like the 4.88 is the way to go.

Yes, much smaller and lighter tires in a much smaller and lighter truck...

Well, I wouldn't say "much smaller and lighter" for the truck or the tires. Her tires are likely 5-6lbs(each) heavier than mine and from my reading, my truck (2014 RC 4x4 auto) weighs in at 3765lbs (stock) and her truck (2015 AC 4x2 auto) weighs in at 3810lbs. Lots of factors will effect final weight, but I doubt it would be "much" difference.
I was just giving my first-hand experience with a gear change in the 4cyl auto Tacoma.

Nope, she has a double cab so that's much heavier. Tire weight is unsprung mass so any difference is felt exponentially and of course 35s are also larger and thus harder to rotate than 33s

Yeah, I missed the DC part. Then her truck(stock) weighed 3890lbs.
The biggest thing that will make her experience with 4.88s different than mine will be the tire diameter and tire weight (35s vs 33s).
But, there should be no doubt that 4.88s will make for a much happier truck and driver.

Well I like my 35's. I couldn't imagine running my truck on a 6 inch lift with 33's. Just wouldn't look right IMO. But, either way I still think the 4.88's are going to help. Anything is better than the performance I am getting now.

Yeah, I wouldn't run 33s with 6" of lift. With 6", 35s certainly look better. The 4.88s will help out a lot.

Now my next question is until i can regear someone told me i could take it out of overdrive (D) and run it in 3 doing under 60 mph to help with the struggling. In D at 55, 60 mph im only running 1500 rpm. So its definitely struggling. I drove it in 3 and at 55 moh i was running about 2300 rpms and it didnt struggle at all. Is that bad for your engine to run it in 3? Or is that an okay alternative til i can get it regeared and drive it back in D all the time?

You won't hurt anything running it in 3 when needed the putting it back in D to cruise... I've had my truck in 3rd gear at 4700 rpm for 10 minutes climbing a hill
