Taco's usually come with 30.41" to 31.61" tires, lets use 31" tires @ at 60 mph, W/ auto. O/D trans. & 4.10 gears, it should run 1866 rpm. If you have a 5 spd. O/D manual trans. & 4.10 gears, it should run 2133 rpm., Can't figure why Toyota wants the manual trans. Taco's to run roughly 250 rpm., at hwy. speed, more than the auto. No wonder the auto. feels so sluggish. If you change to 35" tires, the auto. O/D trans. still at 60 mph. 4.10 = 1653 rpm., with 4.56 = 1810 rpm., with 4.88 = 1968 rpm., & with 5.29 = 2133 rpm. Note that the 2133 rpm. with 35" tires, a 5.29 gear, & "AUTO" O/D trans. your 60 mph. rpm. is exactly what a stock Taco with orig. 31" tires, 5 spd O/D manual trans., 4.10 gears would be running. It seems if 2133 rpm @ 60 mph. with orig. stuff, manual trans. with 31" tires & 4.10 gears isn't excessive, the auto. trans. with & 35" tires 5.29 gears, 2133 rpm. @ 60 mph. shouldn't be excessive there either. Am I missing something???

    33's W/5.29 gears & 5 spd manual @ 60will be 2585, that's 452 rpm. higher than stock 2133 rpm. W/ orig. 31" tires & 4.10 gears

Seriously though, for wheeling my buddy runs 5.29s with 35s and doesn't slip the clutch at all on obstacles. Highway? I dont care so much. Didn't get a 2.7 for the speed. I wheel 33s on 4.10s and wish I had 4.88s

Me either but damn it’s embarrassing getting passed on hills by 18-wheelers and F-250 pulling a car hauler with 9 cars.

That's hilarious. At least you're getting better mileage than that F250...

Yes it is. I try to make it look intentional when I’m reality I’m in 2nd gear turning 4K RPM at 50mph.

Yep, 2.7 with an auto is a real slug. I keep hoping someone who has changed to 4.88 or 5.29 gears will chime in. surely someone has tried it, it should be a huge improvement.

Yes. I’m collecting parts to convert to a 5spd manual. Hopefully I’ll be ready something this coming year. Goals!

It’s not necessary. You can repin a few of the wires and pull new wires for the couple others that are needed. I was considering swapping the harness too but seeing that it’s only a few things that need to change, I’m likely going to keep my harness to avoid tearing the dash apart.

Yep i have 5.29 33's and 4 speed auto DBCB. I have steel front bumper, sliders, aluminum skids, bed rack, roof rack and RTT sometimes loaded. I can tell you without the tent it has enough power that i am happy with. With the tent it defiantly struggles. That being said even with all those items i mention and my dog plus my girlfriend and myself. I was able to go up probably a 35 degree incline in low gear in 2wd! Did feel like it wasn't going to make it at a time but it did lol.

Changing from an auto. O/D to 5 spd manual O/D, all figured at 60 mph. & with 31" tires will move you from 1866 to 2133, up 267 rpm. Going from 4.10 to 4.56 gears with auto trans. will change from 1866 to 2076. up 210 rpm. & 4.10 to 4.88 would be 1866 to 2222, would go up 356 rpm.
