There are several MPG threads, but looking through, most are figuring in city mileage to compute the overall MPG. The problem is that there are so many variables with "city mileage" that it should really just be thrown out. Highway mileage has enough variables as it is, but I think this is a better indicator for engine efficiency.

I would like to see what you 2.7L 4x4 people are getting on the freeway (only). Please list drivetrain (stick/auto), mods (if any), and driving speed.

2010 Access Cab. 5spd Manual. 4x4. With a 3 inch lift. 265/75R16 Cooper Atp's. Level 8 aluminum rims. Best mileage- 23mpg. Worst- 15mpg. I drive between Ann Arbor MI and Albany NY about every 4-6 weeks. At 67mph I get 20mpg. 65mph its low 20s. Anything over 70mph is upper teens. The 15mpg was towing a 6x12 foot uhaul in-closed trailer same trip at 65-70mph.

jztacoma - Do you have any data of when it was 100% stock?

bone stock I did one trip with it and I think it floated around 20mpg. I bought it Jan of 2013 and had it on 265/75/R16s by July. The larger tires actually help a little. Stock size was 245/75/R16. It would do a better combined (city and highway) on stock tires if I remember correctly.

2.7 I4, auto trans, DCSB Prerunner. OEM alloy wheels.
Stock (no lift, and OEM P245/75/16 Dunlop AT20) - 26-28 MPG HWY.
Modded (1.5" front, 2" rear lift, P265/75/16 Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10) - 22-24 MPG HWY.

When possible I keep the RPMs below 2000, which usually puts me around 62 MPH. My average MPG floats around 19-20. Before lift and tires, my average floated between 22-24 MPG.

'09 4-banger, 5 speed, 4wd, 265/75R16 load range E tires, access cab, fiberglass shell and a hundred pounds or so in the bed--25 mpg last fill up, mostly mountain driving. Still need to find a reason to take a highway trip to check mileage.

You realized prerunner is a 2wd. So it will get better mpg then 4x4s.

    yes. I'm well aware a prerunner is a 2wd.

Hell why not break this post into sub groups.

RC, AC, and DC 5-lugger stick/auto MPG:
RC, AC, and DC Prerunner stick/auto MPG:
RC and AC 4x4 stick/auto MPG:

It would be nice to know the MPG differences between the many drivetrain and cab configs offered with the 2.7L.

ac 4x4 manual trans, bilstein 5100's being the only mod (set to 1.75 up front):

16mpg highway. 55k on the truck. mpg has been consistant since day 1 when it was new.

it gets better mpg around town, the truck is pig slow on the highway and i end up doing the 3,4,5 waltz....

'00 RC, 2.7, manual with 235/75/15 tires and after correcting the odometer it runs ~22mpg in the summer, a couple less in the winter.

2005 access cab 4x4 5speed. stock with 265/70r 16 . Summer time at 75mph 23mpg at 72-3 it would usually break 24mpg. Winter time it never broke 22 mpg. All this was mIddle Tn not flat at all. Towing 2500 lbs to Milwaukee I got 19 mpg threw Indiana. Doing 70mph that was my best towing mileage ever. I just recently bought a 4.0 double cab. And it is very thirsty. All those threads claiming v6 economy being the same as 2.7 are full of sh..

2013 RC AT, 30,000 miles on truck, went to GA today and back, about 360 or so miles round trip. Filled before and after, averaged @70+ on freeway and was hauling four tires on the way back. Ended up at 20.214 MPG for the trip.
    Stock 245 tires also.
I was pleased considering the amount if shifting the AT has to do, and I did use cruise as much as possible.

Dang, I was pretty happy today. Did a 500+ mile trip and got 19.7 MPGs with my 2014 Reg Cab 4x4 auto with 285s. Ran about 77MPH most of the way. This is the first time I've had the opportunity to check it on the road. I'm pleased with those numbers.

not highway, but my '97 ec 4x4 3rz/5spd with 300k gets 19-21 mpg in mixed city/highway driving.

Usually can count on 23 mpg or so at 70 mph, depending on conditions. Once on a long trip it got up over 26 mpg or so. Another >300 mile trip last year where I had about 500# in the bed and never used 5th gear due to funky tranny noises (I rebuilt it a month later) it still averaged about 21mpg. Not too bad considering it was spinning about 3300 rpm the whole way. The slight motor vibration on that trip kept trying to put my feet asleep!

I did have to change out the speedo gear because stock it was off. Like, a most things made in China aren't that far off, kind of off. Stock speedo was 10% fast and odo was 4% fast. With the N30 gear the speedo is still about 6% fast but the odo is within a half percent or so. I changed my whole fuelly table to reflect that when I changed the gear. So other 5 spd 4x4 mileage numbers I personally take with a grain of salt unless they have the bigger tires to make it right.
