I found out a couple weeks ago while checking and adding air to the tires my Access Cab's 265/70R/16 tires are not stock. The label specifies P245/75R16. I like how my 5 speed manual is geared taller than other 4 cylinder vehicles I've had, but it almost seems too tall. I tend to upshift a few mph higher than the owner's manual specifies. When it comes time to replace them, I may go with the original 245 size.
Nice truck. You'll probably get good fuel economy for a mid sized truck with the 2.7L. I don't think you can get a manual transmission with new 2.7L trucks, but the 6 speed automatics are probably more efficient than my 5 speed manual.

Yeah it stinks Toyota dropped the M/T in 2017 I think or maybe it was 18.

I like my 255/75/17s at 32” but next time I may do the stock size 245/75/R16 or the 265/70/16. Now the
second size there is stock on the TRD OR and are usually costlier than the 265/75/R16 people go to.

I know I have seen 245 KO2s twice in my life on Tacomas and swore they were 31s, I figured maybe BFG used the same mold or something.

Man if I could get up to 20mpg I would be tickled but I would need to lower the truck possibly. Would look odd at the height it is now.

I had 245 KO's. It's one of the few sizes available both in P and LT. They are E-rated and heavy.

I put on 265/70r17 last week and I only lost 1mpg.
It is a bit slower accelerating though

It's subjective. I don't think wider tires look good at all compared to 235's or 215's, unless the rest of the truck checks out.
There are no good reasons apart from aesthetics to run wider and heavier tires. If you're driving a lot on sand, or actually going off road the majority of the time, maybe wider tires make sense, but I am more about function first, not form.
Less unsprung weight is always desirable, and the 4 cylinder trucks don't have any "oomph" to spare.
2 sets of wheels are always an option.

Of course it’s subjective but I didn’t say run wider tires. I run 255/85/16s. I just mean larger tires in general, and a good set of all terrains. There’s nothing wrong with having a bone stock truck, but I think they look better with tires that help fill the wheel wells more. It depends about where you live, what you do and of course, prefer. All season tires don’t work for me but to each their own. I largely agree with you about functionality and these trucks in stock form can do damn near anything.

Best thing I ever heard was why is it in America? We need 33”s to go to the mall but in a foreign country you just need a Toyota on pretty much rubber tires and it’ll go by anywhere!!!

I love my tall skinnies though!

LOL, in Afghanistan in particular, I’d see an old hilux on small tires with 10 people in the bed crawl up mountains like it was nothing

    @Soonr1

Ditto for Guatemala, lol… Old school yota trucks on skinny tires tearing it up everywhere!

Love the old skewl Smittybuilt looking chrome bumpers and hoops they still have too!

I've heard 2.7L trucks with the 5 speed manual are becoming hard to come by. Glad we got them when we did, I could see prices going up. You're not getting close to 20mpg maybe because it's raised? Except for the tires, mine is averaging close to 21mpg now. It went down a bit since it's gotten colder. If you did lower it I hope that it would help after going through the effort.

Mine seems a bit raised, I was surprised to see it's very close to the height on my 2002 Z71 Chevy Silverado, which I think are slightly higher than the base model. That could be because the 265/70/16 tires I believe are about an inch taller than the stock 245/75/16s.

    Hmmm,
    I’m also in Western NC,
Some of the mountains don’t help with shifting and all.

I’m hoping to take the truck to Ocracoke Island and get to some flatter bits to see if the highway MPGs get better.

I’ve often wondered what’s the best riding suspension our 4-cyl trucks can have that is STOCK height?

The woodgrain was aftermarket? Looks good, and looks factory installed. I always like seeing a manual shift lever.

The wheel is actually oem from a lexus rx350 and the airbag is from a solara. It's a plug'n'play swap. I made a post about it a while back. The knob was a custom job, stained to match the steering wheel. Definitely a fun project!

    That swap is sweet man!

So is your truck an SR5? I can’t remember when they did/didn’t do 2.7 SR5s.

Thanks! It is indeed an SR5 2.7 with a TRD offroad suspension swap. Just need that rear locker and I'll finally have the 4 banger TRD OR that Toyota never saw fit to make haha

"Member of The Manual Gearbox Preservation Society" - I need to check that out. I'm on Standardshift.com. A fanatic - even had 2 minivans and a Ford Club wagon with manual transmissions.

A while back a black Dodge Ram passed by with flags like that. I waved from my black Tacoma & the passenger waved back. Felt good.

Man those Gen 1 access cabs are nice. Kinda rare in these parts.
