They (and I certainly) were surprised (and glad to have) that 'grunt' during Snowpocalypse here in southern New England over the past couple of days.

How's the power with those tires w/ 4.88s. I was considering doing some regearing and 35s

4.88's and 35's was a good combination, no matter what it'll still be a 4banger. I've seen several reg cabs set up that way on here and it seems to work.

I agree. My truck is slow. But at low speeds it seems like it would be no slower then on stock gears and stock tires. Highway speeds is a lil bit different and I can't exactly compare apple's to apple's because nothing about my truck is stock but 4.88s and 35s seem to work well

Just getting started with the mods, but have used it as stock quite a bit. With over 38K miles I'm still happy with the choice to get the 4cyl.

New to TacomaWorld. Just picked up my first, long awaited, Taco. I need help with deciding on a lift/leveling kit. I dont know much about them but would like to upgrade to 255 or 265 tires. Could you guys list out some options with price estimates? That would be greatly appreciated!

Bilstein 5100s will bring up your front end about 2 inches, AAL in the rear will bring you up 2.5 and cost your roughly 350 bucks total.

255/85/16 tires are the tallest I would put on there with stock gearing. 33" tire but only about 9.75-10" wide.

As you can see, it has a shell so consider that weight and when camping, it will be loaded down with camping gear but 75% of the time, no additional load and will be run on the road.

I want a level lift, whether thats 2" or 3". After the lift, I will run the stock 245 tires until they need to be replaced and then I will go with a 255 or 265 but no larger. Its important to me to have the front and rear level and that they remain that way.

The OME and Toytec ULK kits are in my budget bud I'd love to save money if possible. I will have to pay to have whatever I buy installed because unfortunately, I have limited mechanic skills.

It's not important to me to get the full 3" or max amount of lift. I just want the front and rear to be lifted and level.

I'd go with this setup. It's simple and a lot of folks like it. 5100s in the front amd back and either OME aal or Icon progressive 3 leaf kit in the rear. That keeps you to only a few hundred dollars, a nice ride, a nice height (2" - 2 1/2") and both those packs hold weight well. I just helped another member put this exact setup on his DC and it rides and looks great

So after all this research I've done, I thought I'd finalized my decisions on the following:
Billstein 5100's Front and Rear with OME 884 up front + 1/4 spacer for lean
Either Wheeler's progressive AAL OR Dakars with one leaf removed.

Then.....I ran into this guy, "Gimmick", who says he just has Billstein5100s up front on stock coils and running 265 tires. I THINK HIS RIDE LOOKS GREAT! I'd be happy with that aesthetically!

My question is: What's the catch? Can I get away with just what he has if I'm not doing any serious off roading?

I offroad mine with the setup I talked to you about. Works great for what I do. Granted I'm not going to jump my truck or do anything super crazy.

I'd like to avoid losing the mpg and power that comes with upgrading to 265/75. If I switch from the stock dunlops to a 245/75/16 BFG All Terrain KO, what affect would I have on my mpg and power?

Anybody have a slight lift/level with an aggressive AT or mud tire in 245/75 ? I'd love to see a pic.
