Re-installing the head on my 2000 Tacoma and don't see the marks. The "book" says to line up the marks on the cams. The intake cam is clear with only one option for dots but the exaust cam has 3 different dots to choose from. Does anyone know which one to use?
The book shows a v mark on the inside of the pulley to line up top dead center (tdc) but I only see a mark on the outside of the pulley. Is this the one?
One last question from the rookie...
Is this a interference engine? I had it together but think it may have been incorrect. Turned over but didnt start. Ruined?

    Thanks for any info!

Found the v mark on the pulley, reset the cams and it started right up. Just wondering now if I did any damage when I was turning it over before?

You would know pretty quick if damage was done.

Gates.com says it is non interference.
When I first fired it up yesterday it sounded great and throttled up no problem but I was missing a couple bolts so I didnt drive it. Today I installed the manifold stud and a valve cover bolt then tried to start it. It started very hard, idles low and the rpm's surge up and down when I idle it up. Any ideas? Back to the 3 dots on the cam? Thanks

Check the timing, and vacuum lines. You may have bumped one loose/off.

If I remember the dot lines up with the square stock key on the cam and gear then there is a single dot on the exhaust and the double dot on the intake and they should all line up
