I'm getting about 17 mpg with 255/85R16 tires. 40,600 miles. What size are your tires? Auto or manual?

285/75/r16 on stock gears. It's an automatic.

What kind of driving do you do and where do you live? Lot of hills?

98% stop and go, and it's flat as it gets.

At least gas prices are not too tremendously high. I can't imagine a 4 cyl with 35s though, not very fast?

Good to know it's going to hurt worse than I though when I step up to 35x10.5x16 tires.

This is interesting.. I drive a 2002 single cab 2.7l and I get 22-24mpg with a loaded bed all week for work. When the truck isn't loaded I get 24-26mpg

I also have a K&N air filter and NGK spark plugs. 90% of my driving is city as well.

Your mileage sounds right in the ballpark. My truck is also fully loaded most of the time and I can't tell any difference in how it performs whether it's full or empty. That's because while the 2.7 is a low performance slow turning engine, it's designed to carry a load. That's what torque is.

lol i wouldnt claim the 2.7 makes a lot of torque. horsepower is just how fast torque occurs. which isnt the fastest either lol

I would also like to add that I run my A/C all day while I'm driving as well.

I'm going to run a test next week. I'm going to clean my air filter, check tire pressure and change the only and then calculate my mileage for the entire week and see if any of that will make a change in my mileage compared to the way it's running now.

My new to me 09 Prerunner Access cab 5 speed has been averaging 22.4 with 65% highway and 35% city on my daily commute.

Not to bad considering I'm driving 75+ on the highway.

I've heard it described this way...

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you push the wall. ;)

Just ran another tank through my truck with 33'' tires i managed 320 miles from full to empty light. Turned in at the very next gas station and put as much in as possible. 15.5 gallons. 20.6 mpg's with out recalculation for tire diameter. after recalculation for tire size from a stock actual 28.4'' tire to a actual 33'' tall tire 22 almost 23 mpg's! couldnt be happier. Most people forget to recalculate for new tire diameter. truck only has 2k miles on it though. just starting to break it in.
