So I've got my front Cat that's going out. Makes a rattling noise at idle, no codes have thrown out yet, but I see it coming down the road.

Also I've seen a reduction in MPG, and power.

I've gotten a few quotes from various muffler shops ranging from. $425 Installed to $1800 just for the front Cat!!!

Anyone have any experience with this same issue?

These muffler shops say there is no CA compliant aftermarket cat available, just from the factory...

That was from a dealership by the way.

    Call them for a quote.

Unreal. Makes me think the $425 price is shaddy.

Might as well trade it in and let the dealer handle it. Not worth it to me when it's not a 4x4 truck.

I got mine done in Florida for 275. I don't know if it is CA legal though. What the shop did was chop out the section where the cats are then just replaced the 2 cats with 1 bigger cat. It was also my front one that went out but by the time I got it replaced it was completely hollow and had all gotten caught in the second cat.

Yes it was, but that's what the invoice was for.

Luckily I didn't pay for it.

Go to Richards performance muffler if you are in Oside. They did mine, AND gave me a custom 3in exhaust and still passed the emissions test.

Call the dealership and have them run your vin. If there's a reduction in performance, I'd be willing to bet it's part of the recall. Have them check your leafs too!

I took my old 97 to a place in Long Beach after my cat got stolen and they guarantees it to smog that day. Less than $400 parts & labor.
