Hey guys I was wondering if I could get some help deciding if the upgrades I'm putting into my truck are worth it and/or if they're better options out there. So upgrades I'm thinking of putting in are a Doug Thorley header for a 2.7L (with air injection) and a flowmaster 60 series muffler. Any feedback is much appreciated.

It all comes down to how much you want to spend on your truck. For the amount of money you may spend trying to squeeze HP, could you sell your truck and spend that money and buy a V6 TACOMA?

Ya, I've put some thought into that option too but I realized if I bought a V6 I'd do the same upgrades to it and I'm not putting in more than 1k of upgrades to it (not counting installation)

With the V6 it will be more fun with a set headers and a URD intake. :)

I wish I had the money to buy a V6 but unfortunately my dad bought me this truck and I have to raise the money for my upgrades so I have to do the best I can with upgrades that are out there for a four cylinder.

Understandable, try to squeeze as much HP as you can and have fun with it.

That's the plan but I'm having trouble finding the best options. I've talked to multiple people and have several reviews and forums and they seem to say flowmaster exhaust and LCE headers.

its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
not really that much you can do on hp upgrades except LCE headers which are the best and they are expensive, most others really fall short of real expectations. got to remember a 4 banger is a lower cost alternative to the v6 models, but even tho its smaller it will get the job done as far as using it for tasks that are within its power and load hauling capabilities. also remember that adding weight to this powertrain decreases performance and power something to remember if you are adding bigger tires, body armor, caps, tonneau covers, unless you regear the rear axle ratio you will have a complete un efficient dog for a truck.

what exactly do spacers do? Also I see you put a level kit on your taco. I was thinking of doing that because it seems to be cheaper than a lift kit

The best one can do with a truck that has been given to them............

    1) appreciate it
    2) learn how to maintain it properly, and do so
    3) enjoy it for what it is
    4) honor your parents by not doing anything too stupid
    5) understand that 'mods' can either be functional or cosmetic. Know the difference. Make wise choices.
    6) lower your expectations for any power upgrades. On any Tacoma. ;)
    7) 90% of the time, don't listen to your friends and what they/their cousin/their girls ex boyfriends father or anyone else did. The other 10% weigh carefully.

this or a super charger neither are very cost friendly, there are plenty of threads on LCE headers and YOUTUBE

1k just for parts (CAI, header, flowmaster muffler). It's not easy raising money without a job.

Yep. Cheap and power doesn't really go together.

    Get a job?

    Forget the mods?

Do the math, and learn what $/HP value means. The 3 items you mention will get, maybe on a good day, 5 hp. And noise.

    $200/hp.

Weight reduction. 10# = adding ~ 1hp. Lose 50#, save $1k. Drives the same, except the noise.

save the money, if you dont have a job you shouldnt be spending it on truck parts..... spend the money by putting it in the tank and going to a job interview.
