Makes sense. My tailgate key looks like an ignition key. Would have been cool if the little key built into the fobs locked the tailgate. But at least I can lock it.

The DRLs only dim when the headlights are on. They do not shut off.

I don't like that the fog lights turn off when the high beams are on. I also don't like that you can't run the front ambers when you have the parking lights on. I liked that look on the 2nd gens

Most tunnels have a sign at the beginning telling you to turn on your lights. If you can't see your gauge, odds are that it is dark enough out that you should turn them on anyway for safety. I just leave my headlights on all the time (don't have auto either). I set the delay to go off as soon as I turn the truck off so I don't have to second guess that they will go off in 30 secs. That will address both issues.

Totally agree with the sparse (1) USB support lol. wth. It reminds me of my '08 that didn't support mp3s in the cd player.

    Glad you are happy overall

SR5 V6 purchased in North Carolina. Dealer gave me 2 regular keys. No valet key at all. Both keys work for everything. Ignition, glove and tailgate. Don't know if its an issue with the Fob key from trims with Key less start.

It only applies to the ones with push button start. The laser cut key in the fob opens the door and the glove box. A separate regular key opens the tailgate. If it's that big of an annoyance, one can just do the power tailgate mod and call it a day.

My 34 ounce Bubba Keg fits in the small cup holders just fine.

    http://www.amazon.com/AimTrend-Leat...odeID=2474937011&keywords=zippered+coin+purse

I bought one of these zippered coin purses to put my loose change in. I keep it in the cubby hole in front of the gear shift.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Cup-...YLVHQ7SmjJgXL4QisBUMg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

And after reading multiple posts about people using the cup holder ash tray to store loose change in. I was lucky to win the highest bid of $5.00 on a Ebay auction. I really did not need it but came up with the plan of keeping quarters in it so when I gas up I can stop the pump on the nearest 25, 50, or 75 cent mark. I cannot afford to buy a new charcoal filter for overfilling the gas tank.

Your post has me learning stuff about my Tacoma! Also some of your rants have solutions/workarounds that might be useful to ya.

1: My TRD OR has a doofy little pocket with a rubberized bottom to the left of the steering wheel above the bed lights switch. I use that. Do you not have that?

3: You know what I did for this was get a very small profile 12v USB charger to go in the power port that's located in the center console. The center console has a nifty channel in it, too, where you can run the USB cable out of the console and still close the lid. The adapter is so small that the port's plastic lid can actually close on it when there is no cable attached. Maybe try that? Still not as convenient.

4: WHAT THE STUFF!!!?? I had no idea that my key didn't lock my glove compartment or tailgate. My truck only came with the two fobs! I just went and checked and sure enough, I have no valet key and no way to lock my tailgate or G.C.! Thanks so much for posting about this! I now have to go to the dealership and see what it takes to get a valet key! I hope it's a simple process!

6: I have seen guys in this forum swapping out their OEM lights for HIDs. That's makes it match up pretty well.

11: Now, I'm only on my second tank with my truck, so I haven't been too hard on it. I agree that the power band is a bit frustrating, but I can tell you I've put the pedal down and been surprised once or twice as the truck has gained mileage. It's definitely a step down from the instant power delivery of the 2nd gens, but I'll take that for the other upgrades and the improved driving experience.

I also *KNOCK ON WOOD* don't have the other reported problems so far.

My mileage has been about 90% city (I live a couple miles from work) and 10% highway. I found that, although my first tank avg displayed 18 mpg, when I did the math it was 19.7. Now I'm averaging 21mpg, but my city streets' speed limits don't go above 45mph.

I would second the recommendation for 2nd gen owners to wait. The only reason I didn't is because I have move coming up soon and needed a tow package, 4wd, and upgraded suspension (towing cross country and probably going to live in a snow/mountain area). I was also wrestling with the notoriously resilient driveline vibration issue. I loved that truck for all its flaws, though.

You have a steering wheel for that. First gens don't have on on the a pillar either, probably because it blocks visibility or something.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

The TRD Sport and OR seem to have the same setup interior besides the Auto on/off lights.

About the DRL, I know they are a crisp white when they are on, I was talking about when you switch the headlights on, the DRL dim to a halogen look (not the crisp white look). I am putting HIDs in this weekend and my OCD wants everything to match. I will learn to live with all of these things, just my little rants.

Also, anyone know on the air vent directional knob, what the spot in between the full face and the face/feet option is for? I have turned it trying to compare to see what the difference is between the full face and this section but I cant seem to notice anything. Only notice when you turn it to the face/feet that is loses a little fan power on the face.

I just assumed that spot was a blank click. Same deal for me, no real change.

I'm also OCD and would like my lights to match, but I feed myself a line to help get around it. Maybe it'll help for you. I ride motorcycles, and in my experience yellow lenses improve night visibility when it comes to seeing things like the road markings. In the same way, I've always experienced a better fog cut with yellow lenses on my fog lights, so maybe the halogen color, not being true white, will somehow improve my night visibility and assist in inclement weather? So the design would be intentional. Now I can sleep at night. LOL.

All of your rants make perfect sense, and like I said, it definitely helped me realize I don't have a valet key!! Good sensible stuff. None of this "my brake pedal makes a squeak" or "my speakers don't get loud enough" complaining.

I have 2008 SR5. It has no DRL or "AUTO" on the stalk but the lights go off if you turn the motor off and open the door to get out even if stalk setting is left in on position. I would think yours should at least have the subliminal auto shut off where you won't be draining battery but yeah, odd that they wouldn't just do all models with same functions as far as headlights/parkinglights/DRLs.

The key thing for glovebox and tailgate is stupid and backwards IMO. The FOB key should work everything and the extra key should only work ignition/doors like a valet key should.

Yeah on mine if you press the lock button twice the lights will turn off. They will go off after 30 seconds if you only press it once. Just the auto sensing would have been nice to have. All my cars besides my Evo X had it so it will just take some getting use to.

Also wanted to add to the list of things that bother me a little...

The fan speed control. Wish they had added 2 more speeds, one in between low and off and one in between medium and high.

Again I will learn to live with it. Its just me being a little fairy princess.

Isn't the LED DRL and auto modes associated with the Tech packages?

Believe LED DRL is on the TRD and limited models. Auto (light sensing) headlights are only on the premium & tech package.
