i did this as i have a very long very steep blacktop driveway and sometimes have to haul a heavy trailer up it and was afraid of useing 4 lo on the asphalt with a full lock turn at the top. this made it much easier both on me and the truck.

i also need to mention that 4 lo is still usable you just push the button and shove it in. also you can push the button in 2lo to go from 2 lo to 4 lo and vise-versa without putting the truck in nuteral...just let off the throttle and push the button.
this push button feature is very handy; for example your on a tight trail in 4 lo and need to turn sharper than 4 lo will let you...push the button out and your in 2lo -done turning? -push it again and your in 4 lo.

4hi and 2 hi operation remain unchanged and fully functional.

    It really is that easy?

Edit: yep really is that easy, lol.... sweet, that will make launching the boat so much better, now that my 4wd won't be binding up on the black top.

it took me less than 5 min from the time i crawled under the truck till i was ready to try it out. easiest mod ive ever done!
all your doing is removeing the feed loop that tells the ADD(auto differential disconect) to engage when lo range is selected.
essentualy the same as leaveing manual locking hubs unlocked in the front.

just an update...i keep finding more uses for this mod every time i haul

have used it more than a few times recently for hauling stuff up some of the steep gravel drives that i frequent.
it makes it feel much less doggy going up the hills heavily loaded in 2 low than in 2 hi-and i dont need 4wd on packed gravel...

and used it ALOT in reverse.

When you say "push the button and shove it in" are you talking about the 2hi-4hi-4lo dial selector? What year is your truck?

first gen trucks with the button shifter that has a button that controls 4wd in high range and is pushed forward for 4lo- this mod allows you to select 4lo wothout engageing the ADD makeing for 2wd lo with on demand 4wd lo by pushing the button like you would for 4wd in high range

mines an '01 that may be the reason...i looked at several at a dealer and i seem to remember it was the same as mine on most of them...but i only seriously looked at '00 and newer...

i found some info but not enough to be conclusive in years or features...still looking...ill update if i find anything else.

i think your right. i found a few posts about this version of the mod but none with pictures- thus this-
not a lot of info to be found and so many variations look for.

this version has worked very well for me and for anyone who has same connector it should work for them too.
