So about 7 months back i was doing some playing around in the sand doing some doughnuts. notice my truck got a little more warm than usual. Soooo long story short stop to let it cool and started on my way home, thats when i notice my truck would end up shifting erratically. Between shits rpms would jump to about 4500 before kicking into gear. So i ended up taking it to Toyota being it only had 7k at the time. In the end they replace the trans and 10k later all good. still wonder what could have made it go so early in its life. well today i get a text from my buddy that lives in the next town over. (13 Tacoma trd offroad) He goes on to tell me over the weekend he was doing some doughnuts in the snow we just got and this morning as he was driving to school and he said his truck was shifting erratically (his truck only has 7k on it) now it has me thinking i didn't just have a odd defective trans that there is a bigger problem that most owners dont know about. especially when Toyota replaces it for free with little to no questions asked. Whats your guys opinion on this ?

Low on fluid from the factory could have something to do with it.
Or wait, were the two tran(nys)blowing at 7 grand each or 3.5 grand each? That's an expensive blow.

One can never have too many light bars.
When you make 150K trucks a year the odds are that some will have major failures like yours. Toyota accounts for the fact that some will fail and it sounds like they fixed your problem fairly easily. The transmission in your '15 has been in production for over a decade with over 1 million being produced. I think if there was a major engineering defect it would have been discovered by now.

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
I think it's now normal to come from the factory a little on the low fluid side. That way when the warranty is up most likely the transmission will go unless you have Toyota do a fluid check. Then again, if you abuse the shit out of it, it'll go sooner!

One thing to realize when you "play around" at low speeds is that there's also less air flow into the front of the truck. Heat is the enemy of any transmission. If you're spinning around in circles with the accelerator pegged to the floor, you're generating a lot of heat in both the engine and the trans while not a lot of air is flowing through to remove the heat.

I think you should feel fortunate that Toyota had the good graces to replace the transmission under warranty. That's easily a $3000-$5000 repair.
